Hey everyone. My 6831 has been giving me a lot of performance issues in many of my games lately. I've defragged the hard drive, installed the latest nvidia drivers, made there was no viruses or spyware, and made no sure to programs were running that were not needed. None of this has helped me performance go up by a good amount.

My favorite game TF2 has been acting up the most. I used to run the game at maxed settings without issue, but now I still lag at even the lowest settings. This is pretty bad, since I don't see half the stuff happening in the game so I can't play to my full potential.

I did a 3DMark06 run and scored 5243. I saw this was lower then the normal score as well if that helps at all.

Any ideas on what is going on?

the only things i can come up with are, make sure your laptop is plugged in and that power saver is not on. i have the same model and some games are giving me problems too, mostly Silent Hunter 4. but that game has always been nonething but problems. but some other games are starting to do it too, i guess i wont be having this laptop much longer. as some as the new 40nm high end GPUs come out i am getting rid of it.

oh and what are the temperatures like on cpu and gpu.

have you cleaned your laptop lately?

If you have alot of build up in the laptop/fans then the system is probably over heating quickly and giving you a WAY downclocked setting to try to not die while preforming your tasks.

A reformat and reinstall of Windows is the best you can do after what you have done.

Sounds an awefully lot like you are running on battery. Is you AC brick failing under high load? Is the plug failing under high current etc etc etc.

It could be your power profiles are running it down or just high heat is causing the GPU and or CPU to slow down to cool off too. Alot to check out as it could be several things or even a combination of them............

I think there is a heat issue. Using core temp and orthos to stress the CPU the temps got pretty high, and the clocks kept going back a forth. That must be the issue. The GPU seemed to be at a ok temp. I'm going to get all the dust out and see if it helps.

I tried reinstalling windows awhile a go to see if it would help, and nothing improved.

Battery isn't being used. The profile is on high performance, and there hasn't been any crashes as of yet.

check your temps, your GPU is downclocking thus causing the low frames.

let us know, use HWmonitor(google it), and run it before, during and after the game to see how your temps react to the game.
