Intel's crap thermal stuff has pissed me so far off it's unbelievable. It won't break in, and it gives me 45-60 idle temps, i run Orthros for 3 seconds and it Overheat-shutdowns. Hell, half the time it will OH-SD from just tring to start Vista!

There is no way to get this **** off either! I've tried in order:
    -85% ethanol
    -acetone @80%
    -babyoil (lol)
    -isopropanol@ 99.9%
    -Hairdryer+more IP 99.9
-heating metal rod+ MORE IP 99.9

    Not even a scratch.
    W - T - F

I'm going to call the frigging US army soon and tell them to call intel and have them use this as bulletproof armor, WHAT IN HELL DO THEY PUT IN THIS STUFF?

I'm out of ideas, and burn-in is impossible, I can't even play supcomm for more than 3 minutes!

What have others done to remove the stuff while it is hard?

not sure what the bios is showing but I would RMA it if possible.

check the vcore in bios if you can.

MAKE SURE that you are not over doing thermal paste(a little bit goes a long way)

and make sure the heat sink assembly is sitting flush with the proc

make sure the fan is working order(stupid things can happen)

make sure that the laptop is getting ventilation

    1. It was bought on ebay, I'll have to check it's date.

    2. I'll check and repost it later.

3 I haven't put any paste on, it's the little sqaure pile that comes on the proc. Oh, and it hasn't burned in at all if that metters, so there's no paste on ~75% of the processor body.

    4 It is.

    5 Yep.

    6 Yes again.

EDIT: Oh and it's no totally unstable or ruined, I am typing on it right now.

I have no freakin clue what that guy put on that proc! That is NOT normal by any means. on desktop procs you can scrape it off with your finger. the part that is worrying me is the 75% is just metal on metal. thats why its over heating.

I have a feeling I know what the previous owner put on there. They make a thermal paste that is also a glue to hold chipset heatsinks on and so forth. Im willing to bet thats whats stuck on his core.

75% doesn't even touch, the pile effect of the non-burned in glue keeps the HS from touching the rest of the proc, if the pile was flattened, it would touch all of it.

Very unlikely, unless that guy can get his hands on intel's own factory sealed stickers. This thing was new in box, it's intels warranty gunk.

Here's the tear, there's no way it was opened before, Because i remember making the tear very well.

Here's the crap that's on the T9300, this is actually the T5450, but it's the same stuff. This won't budge either.

Here's the alcohol for doubters(yes I know container states 99%, "medicinal ingredients" it states 99.9%:

And here's my NEXT option > :) ( yes I did make the sword myself):

hard to tell from the pic, is it like a small block-like thing?

if so try taking needle nose pliers and twist it and the processor opposite ways.

get a hot needle and poke the top carefully to see if it melts.

No, I don't think I want them to know yet.... >_> seeing as I need this stuff to still be at least somewhat there, in order to RMA.

Perhaps contact them and ask them for ideas? Since it's their goop, they might know better. You don't necessarily need to contact them just for RMA.

Since you got an actual Intel CPU (as opposed to OEM, i'm assuming due to the pretty box) why not try to return it because its "faulty" and see if the next one give you better luck

    i actually LOL'ed at that :)

It's kind of hard to tell with the picture being resized so small, but by looking at that picture... I don't see any thermal goop, just metal??? Maybe try and resize it, but right now all I see is CPU, and I don't think the heatsink is supposed to touch the green part (if that's what you meant by it only touching the inside part).

I'm sure my worries are unfounded, but after looking at that pic and reading all the posts I was worried you were blowtorching the actual CPU haha  :(

    ALRIGHT!

I'm sanding the crap, while alcoholing it, seems to be working albeit slowly. I won't get it all off (I really hate the idea of going through all this and then sanding into the T9300), but there won't be much any left to be worried about, then AS5 then SupComm :D

ALright, disregard the above. I can't get it off.

I'm pressing the BRB (Big Red Button), and RMAing. It's in the same condition, and still works EXACTLY like it's first install. SO I just hope I get it back before I must head off to school.

Intel is VERY good with RMA's

sure as hell beats AMD...in case you are not aware only retailers can RMA an AMD proc :D
