Hi, the touchpad on my Gateway ID49C laptop stopped working. Heres the sequence of events
Hardware:
- There was an issue with the charger jack
- I dismantled the laptop and soldered the loose wire in the jack
- When I put the laptop together again, the touchpad stopped working
- I thought I damaged the part (it was working fine before), so I ordered a new (used) one on eBay
- it also doesnt work and nothing glows as it used to
- Other than that the computer works fine and Im using an USB mouse
- As far I can see, the touchpad is attached to the MB by one little cable. I tried to connect it securely multiple times and it's sitting in pretty tight now.
Software:
- Its not it FN F6 issue, I toggled it many times
- The touchpad is not listed in the device manager. It only appears (with a yellow triangle) when I go to hidden devices. It says The device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)
- There is nothing about the touchpad in BIOS
- I reinstalled the driver for touchpad, it made no difference
- I reinstalled the BIOS I think I see no difference
Any ideas?

Well...problem solved.
I think the solution was to install the new driver from Device Manager (browsing for the folder) rather than using the exe file.

I now suspect the new touchpart pad was never needed, but I'll never know because I'm not dismantling the thing again.katalin_2003 likes this.
