I recently was running my windows update and getting all my system updates (I haven't done this in a long time) and I ended up installing the Vista 32bit SP2. It revered a lot of my drivers to REALLY old version and really screwed with my rig. My Ati catalyst controller is not starting and my sound is disabled, iTunes is broken and who knows what else is messed up.

A lot of people are having this problem from what I've found on various forums. I have however not found a fix for this other than uninstalling SP2.

I would like to not have to resort to uninstalling SP2. Does anyone know of a fix for this problem? There are various driver update programs I've come across like Driver Detective and Driver Robot that can update all my drivers, but neither of these are free. I've also tried the FixIt program that windows offers in their support section, however that failed horribly. Any help would be much appreciated.

As I noted in the thread title I'm running a Gateway 6850FX.

I dont recommend driver detective, it does a very poor job of finding drivers.

I would just go straight to the ATI site and download video drivers from there.
Also for sound, go to the manufacturers site (e.g. realtek) and get the latest drivers.

Well that's all nice and easy but SP2 did more than just mess with those 2 drivers. There are probably about 20 of them. I'm not sure which ones either. I was wondering if there was a compiled list somewhere or a thread someone can point me in the direction of or maybe a free driver updated exe like Driver Detective.

arent the service packs supposed to make the OS better? if there are that many problems just uninstall. im sure thats way less time consuming then trying to figure everything out.
