    Hi Hapse,

You don't have to take your drive out and throw it to another laptop. Why?
What for? Just put you Vista Ultimate disc into the DVD drive and follow the
instructions. But I recommend to make recovery discs first, one with drivers and apps, the other one with whole system. You never know when you
might need them. The disc with drivers will be needed to install all
drivers after you finish installing Ultimate.

    Cheers...

The "advice" that you got from that BB person does not make sense.

    martee's advice does.

Especially the part about making those Gateway recovery/driver disks.

Once you have those disks, you can install a "fresh" Vista Ultimate OS, wiping out everything and starting over.

the screen res is a crap shoot it depends on batch numbers. All boxes say 1440x900 but as of 4 weeks ago u could still get 1920x1200. thats when i got mine. Theres a post on here with updated batch #s check that out and if its been less than 14 days u could do an exchange.

I've read that gateway ran out of the 1440x900 screens so therefore some lucky notebooks got the nicer screen.

You can actually just upgrade the Vista Home Premium to Ultimate using a retail ultimate key. Start setup from within Vista and choose upgrade. During the process it will ask for your product key and away you go. The only issue I found was with the webcam. It gets stuck saying that it is in use. Doing a repair install usually takes care of it. At least for me.

Remove anything that filters the cd/dvd drive including itunes, anydvd, clone dvd, daemon-tools, alcohol 120%, and alcohol 52% before upgrading. Otherwise you will have issues after the upgrade is done. You can reinstall after the upgrade.

The issue with the screens is that apparently it was a "manufacturing mistake" and some early p-7805u's included the screen from the p-7801u by accident. The official spec indicates a 1440x900 screen is supposed to be installed.
