So, I've decided I'm going to order my x7800 this coming Sunday, or Monday and had a question about installing it.
I have some arctic silver, should that be fine thermal paste? Just lurking around I read it might not be a good idea.
If so, is there anywhere that you would recommend and it's sold CHEAP.
I don't have too much money to be throwing around.
I hope this x7800 improves things dramatically!![]()
I would get a T9500, but it's an engineering sample, and don't need anymore hassles in my life.

Thermal paste is not as serious as people take it. It will not dramatically improve your temperatures, nor will it provide any performance gains. Controversial, I know. Get your x7800 from eBay. Sciences_art and extremeprocessor are both very reliable es mobile processor sellers.

i got T9300 and yes it did improve my experience in games. im thinking if going from T9300 to X7800 would give me any benefits (the lil xtra OC) ?
 -

nope, unless the X7800 is OCed to 3.0 they should be roughly the same, new gen + more cache makes the extra clock speed negligible.
Also T9300 is a bit cooler. Both very fast processors though. -

What I meant is that, in on thread someone recommended ceramic over the silver, and I will be getting it from ebay, but those two aren't selling it sadly.
 -

X7800 will run quite hot as it's 65 nm and in my opinion thermal paste does make quite a lot of difference. Arctic Cooling MX-2 is arguably the best out there.
By the way is the T9500 ES or QS - what's the sSpec number? That may be the better buy. -

It says ES, and the others are MUCH more expensive.
What is QS? I saw one of those before. -
It's the last version of an engineering sample that they release, essentially the same thing as a vendor cpu.
 -

As Nar said the differences are negligible.... but as far as cooling goes there is certainly a difference..... when it comes to the ceramique, check amazon or newegg... they have reasonable prices...

i loved the icd thermal paste better than artic just my two cents subscribe to the thread and get free sample i did arrived in like 4 days

I think I might just stick with the x7800, you seem to like it, as you've told me. I'll be placing my order come Monday.
Unless I find a t9500 in a good price range and know Intel won't throw a fit to get it back....
I've heard of it being done. -

X9000 for the win

j/k
The x7800 is a great CPU. It runs a bit hot, but not that bad really (especially once undervolted)
Are you going to try to run at 3.0gHz or stay with the safer and cooler 2.8? -

2.8 most likely. I mainly want to upgrade it so I can play my x264 rips/ blu-ray rips with no problem.
Right now it seems even with codecs audio/picture can be off.
Also, general usage like ripping and encoding.
This is going to be my main rig once I head back to school.
*EDIT*
Just I get mixed reviews and some are all NOOOO go T9300/T9500.. and it runs hot!
But I like the idea of unlocked multiplier. I hope is makes up for the lack of 2mb cache, but.......... I think it will. Anything over the stock t5550 weak cpu, imo.

The best purchase you can make is a QS (Qualification Sample) chip as they are much cheaper than OEM and in nearly all cases are no different. There is no way Intel would try and get one chip back. Thousands of these things are sold all across the world. A T9300 or T9500 QS C0 stepping is the way to go if you are cost concious. Otherwise just go for an X9000 QS C0 - although they are expensive now as supply has dried up.

I want to keep it under 200 dollars. I'm probably going to end up with the x7800, come Monday.
