I have a T6836 notebook out of warranty whose HD is under warranty and seems to be failing (even though it passes the quick test and SMART test says OK).

I can get a replacement drive from Western Digital but I need instructions how to replace it. There are some videos around but they are for models where the HD slides out. The T6836 does not allow that and it's not clear how to take it out and replace it.

I contacted Gateway but they want to do it themselves and charge for it, which is probably not justifiable. The local repair shops are probably also expensive.

Any suggestions as to where I could find out the instructions to do it myself?

    Thanks.

Most have a way to do this. Ussally there is a door underneath secured by screws. If you competance level is high enough remove the door and take a peek inside, the procedure could be easy or you could be one of the unlucky few where ti si next to impossible...............

Edit; Looks like just one screw for the door.

    Thank you.

There was some weird confusion about what model I had. There were 2 models mentioned on the bottom and a video with instructions for the T6836 did not look like mine.

I got the reference manual from Gateway and it now appears that I can do it once I get the replacement.

    Thanks again.
