Is the intel turbo memory even worth it? I was thinking about adding it to the lappy since I was gonna open it up to add bluetooth, a 5300 wifi card, second harddrive, new cpu, and new thermal paste. Would adding Turbo memory be worth it? It will cost around $70. Thanks for the help.

No way, not for $70.
Maybe for $10.
I would put the $70 towards a better and faster HDD. Or get a better CPU than you were going to get.
You will see more performence that way. -
i second that motion by moral hazard. get a hdd and run 2 320gb hdd's in raid 0. thats what im going to do. btw you can get a wd 320gb black for 70-80 shipped from ebay or newegg.

Turbo memory is a waste of money. Heck, even Intel dropped it from their soon to be midline i3/i5/i7 chipsets.

Thanks for the advise. I have decided against the turbo memory.

I have a 1gb module TM and while it is nothing amazing for performance... I have noticed that it does help with boot times and some program loading times.... I got it for about $15 and I would say if you can find one for $10 go ahead and get one... lessens the spaces to fill haha

surely a SSD does a far better job than a TM module, albeit at a greater expense?!

Yes if you have a SSD there is no need for TM.
-
Thats what the point of TM is... its meant for mechanical HD's... not SSD, although im sure you could still use one... dont know why you would though

I've got a 2gb module and I haven't noticed any performance gain. It seems to me that Turbo Memory was just a scam.

The idea is sound. Have a small 1-4gb module of retardly fast flash (more akin to ram than a SSD) that you could use as a place for commonly used programs and items so access would be almost instant.
The problem is they never got the driver to work, and the SSD market with second gen samsung, indilinix and intel ended up destroying the turbo memory -
Well...if you take a look at his sig... it also shows (2) 340 7200 drives.... that alone is pretty fast and would probably have quite fast bootup/loading time for other things.... I have 2x 320 5400 drives in raid 0 and have noticed that bootup times/program loading is slightly faster... to each his own I guess

I have TM on my Dell 1530 and there is a slight gain in booting. TM acts like a buffer before writing to the HDD if needed.
Intel Turbo Memory....
