Well after fiddling around trying to get my Turbo Memory chip working, I actually got it to work.
So I thought I'd share my knowledge.
Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
Locate and then click the following registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
Restart the computer, enter the bios, and enble AHCI, then save and exit. Let windows instal the new drivers, and restart, then instal the Intel turbo memory drivers, enable ready boost, restart, and your good.

Really? Mine worked out of the box xD
-
-
Does it do anything?
-
Some apps are a little zippier, like adobe acrobat, and mostly things like the start menu, and folders open up a little speedier, and bumped my "windows experience index" hard drive score up a point.
Nothing to call home about, but I'd say it worth the $30 so far imo -
$30 ?
where did you get this? -
-
Thank you
-
does anyone know if the 7811 has a slot for this? (whether or not it woudl benefit from it is another story)
-
I just thought I'd do a follow up on my turbo memory performance. General use programs like, internet explorer, acrobat, start menu objects do load up alot faster, deffinetely worth it if you can snag a chip for $30-$40
-
I found out I can not use Turbo Memory with a Raid setup.

I've have my card now for a few months, but couldn't get it to work. I've talked to Gateway, Microsoft, and Intel, each of which told me to contact the other guy.

No problem, took me a couple weeks of research, an sifting through info of people with similar problems but with different systems.. Who needs customer service reps when you have forums? -
Where does this Turbo Memory go? Does it use a regular memory slot?
-
it uses a specific slot which can accessed quite easily on the p68xx notebooks, still any benchmarks that prove any benefit on this ?

Hmmm..Sounds like it might be worth a try...Anybody know if it will work on the 7811...???
-
Finding the retaining screws can be a problem though, since they don't come w/the card. They are smaller than normal. I had to borrow one off my WiFi card, in order to retain my Turbo card.

Well guys the Turbo memory didn't work like you said it would.
Ordered me some of that Turbo memory you said you found a fix for and it came yesterday. I have a Gateway P-173XL FX which had a free mini PCI-E slot. Well I put that badboy in, changed the registry, re-booted (there is no option for AHCI in my bios and I have a RAID 0 setup) so I couldn't do anything with AHCI, I installed the turbo memory drivers and I enabled Ready Boost.
Well if I install the drivers after ver 1.5 that say they have RAID support my laptop will BSOD. I get a stop 0x000000D1 error and it points to the intel turbo memory driver IaNvstor.sys. If I install pre version 1.5 drivers, my pc will boot with no blue screen but the turbo memory will not start. In the device manager it says "error code 10 device will not start".
So am I screwed here guys? I can't return the turbo memory cuz I got it on e-bay and it won't install in my laptop even though I have an almost Identical setup to GoHack.

It would be nice to know how to get it to work with Raid 0
-
My my, look whos back.

Now the question is, who are you gunna get all worked up on the forums: -

I dont use raid so i'm not sure, but sometimes the order things are set up in has a lot to do with if it works or not.
But it honestly could be just the screwed up BIOS that gateways gave us not having enough options open. -
I had the same thing happen to me.
To start, I ran both the older and latest Intel Turbo software, w/no luck.
I hope I can remember how I did it.
First make sure you have SP1 for Vista installed, because I've heard that there are some fixes for the Turbo Memory Card in it.
After fixing the Regedit, thx to KraZy_SkitZy help, go into the Device Manager, then the Storage Controllers, and then the Intel Turbo Memory Controller, uninstall the driver there. Reboot.
Then go right back to the same place in the Device Manager and re-install the driver there. Browse the Computer for it, then Pick from a list of Device Drivers, which in my case, had two, the very latest, 1.7.0.1029, and the previous one, 1.5.0.1013. I picked the latest. Reboot.
Go back to check if it worked, which I hope it did.
You'll still need to rerun the Turbo Memory Software after, for the Intel Turbo Memory Console.
I'm guessing here, but when you first run the driver software, INVM_ENU, it releases the driver, but the hardware doesn't see it. You have to manually load it, so my manually deleting it may not be necessay, but I'm just telling what I did. It doesn't hurt.
I hope this helps. I don't want to delete and redo it again, to check it myself, since mine is working now.
PS - There is no option for AHCI in my bios either. My RAID 0 does work.
. -
I'll try to get it working today and post back with my resluts -
Well I got it working finally!!
I didn't even have to change anything in the registry.
I just went into safe mode and installed the 1.7.0.1029 drivers there. It asked me to reboot and everything started up fine. No more BSOD's.
You are the man GoHack! I was about to give up but you inspired me to give it 1 more try. -
The last time I had tried getting the Turbo Memory card to run, before trying this trick in the Registry, was before Service Pack 1. Maybe it was those fixes there, and not in the Registry, that did it.
Anyway, you got working.
. -
Sounds like a lot of work for something that may or may not have much of any performance gain.

With the old Intel Matrix 7
With the new Intel Matrix 8.5
With the new 8.5 IMSM and 1.7 turbo memory drivers

everything is higher except the burst rate, why is that?

The Turbo memory is non-volitle unlike ram which loses it's data when you turn it off. That means you can store programs on the turbo memory like it is a mini hard drive. Readydrive stores your startup programs on the Turbo Memory for faster startup also.
The other 512MB of the 1GB is used for readyboost which indexes your files so your hard drive/stroge media can access the data faster. This works because the access time on the Turbo Memory is much faster than your Hard Drive access time. That way readyboost can tell your hard drive where it's files are faster than your hard drive can look for the file. -
Oh, well that makes a lot more sense, thanks.
