    [FIXED; see 2nd post]
I searched the forums with this problem but no one seems to have been able to fix this, so here it goes...

I had this problem wifi connection "dropping" problem a few weeks ago but was fixed when i updated my win 7 ultimate. But recently it started dropping connections again, sometimes it would get fixed by disabling and enabling it on the device manager OR by the automatic network fix. I also tried updating to service pack 1 but still it would at least fu*k up once a day...now it dc's more often.

What can i do to fix this? I cant seem to find a new driver for the 5100..

Whats a good replacement wifi card for the 5100 agn?

First my hitachi stock hdd dies then this...

***my p7805u was bought bnew at compusa, nov 2009.

i seem to have fixed my own problem(i got the info from another forum). the "802.11 n" mode seems to be the culprit.

    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Click on "Hardware and Sound"
    3. Click on "Device Manager" under "Devices and Printers"
    4. Expand "Network adapters"
    5. Double click on "Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN"
    6. Select the "Advanced" tab
    7. Click on "802.11n Mode"
    8. Select Value of "Disabled"
    9. Click OK
    Done

losing your n and just having a b or g only is much better than dc-ing every couple minutes...and replacing your NIC.

i already tried that and still the same, there's a bunch of other people thats also having problems with the 5100. not just with the p7805u.

i also used to have the perfect p7805u, but right after the warranty the hdd starts failing and the wifi cards keeps dc'ing.

dont get me wrong, i take care of this laptop, and is used as a desktop replacement (with a cooler master 24/7). but i do leave it on, around 2-3x overnight everyweek, no OC, with the adapter plugged in and the battery out.

BUT i also have read somewhere that the 5100 problem is sometimes associated with the design of a (any)laptop where it gets hot(not sure with the p7805u) as its near the hdd, etc. how do i remove and clean the 5100 on the p7805u?

hmm well the only other thing i can think of would be that the airwaves could be polluted with a bunch of other devices. you could try changing the channel on your wifi. There could be alot of interference going on as well (for example turning on a microwave kills standard wifi signals) if possible even try using a router that supports the 5ghz frequency.

now for your question you just take the bottom panel off an you can access it from there. just unplug your antenna and take the screws off the wifi card and it should be able to be removed easily.

I have the 2.4 and 5.0 set to auto, seems to work fine. My micrwave though kicks the connections but, it does not show disconnected but all traffic grinds to a stop..............
