I'm using a P-6860fx, and would like to upgrade my wireless card to the 5300, anyone know where to get one? I've read things about it.

First you need to find out if you have the three antennae necessary for the upgrade. Then determine if you need a full- or half-height Mini PCI-e card.
This is where I bought mine. The item same day and was packed very securely in a box far too large for such a small part lol. Note that the item I linked is a full-height card. -
How do I find out of i have 3 "antennae"? and I believe the 6860 uses a half pcie
-
If you have a 5100, black and grey should be connected, and the extra antenna (white) will be taped to it or just flopping around in the chassis. If you dont have the third antenna, then there is no capability for upgrade.

4965agn is currently in my notebook

I have no idea if the P-6860fx has a third antenna, so thats your end. Just open it up and have a look.

ya, just need to ge tmotivated to crack this thing open again

I'm personally waiting for the 5350, even though there's a good chance it might not work in the 7811.
-
I've still been to lazy to check for myself if the p-6860fx has the right amount of antennas, anyone have that answer?
-
Finnally cracked open the computer, and it does in fact have the 3 antenna leads.
Now for another question. How do you get them off and is that a mini or half pcie slot? -
hmm might look interesting...

decided to purchase the 5300, I'll be sure to keep you guys posted when it arrives

Installed the 5300, works great seems a hair zippier on file transfers, and range bofeore speed reduction is a fair bit further. But can't get above 270mbs connection to my wrt600n..... No luck seein 450mbps yet.

ok give some more details on which one you bought, about installing, wiring etc.

According to the Lenovo forums, the 5350 is now an option on some of their laptops, but selecting it will delay your shipment 3-4 weeks.

Be sure to uninstal any previous wirless card software, and a clean uninstal from the device manager before shutting down.
Take the base plate off first of all (left one). You have two screws that need to be removed from the old card, one of them is hiding under the wires coming from the card.
When removing the card be sure to write down or remember the color of wire to the matching number when swapping out the card. Taking the wires off were a little tricky, I recomend some mini needle nose plyers, and life the wires off at the base. I wouldn't recomend pulling them off by the wires, as it probably wudn't be fun to recrimp those back on if you accidentally pulled out the wire from the connector.
Match the corrisponding wire to number, place the new card in, replace screws, but base plate back on, boot the notebook, up, windows won't have any drivers for it, so ensure you've downloaded the latest ones from intels webpage. Strait foroward form there.
I'll post recomended driver settings if anyone wants as well. -

So far, it seems worth the $50, much better range, router might be the next upgrade though.. The wrt600n, is good, but a headache in a box for some things. Still can't file transfer from the notebook to my wired computers.
