I wouldn't touch it for that price either. Not worth the cash. Just wanted to give you a heads up though that he upgraded the CPU to the quad.

    Supposedly successfully. ;)

This sounds promising for me. I waited until December of 2009 to get my laptop repaired and they gave me a new motherboard that came with the 9C.20 BIOS. However I really have no need for a quad right now. But it would be so sweet to have! Still though a [email protected] or [email protected] sounds more impressive to me.

Guys you have to see this post:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/wan...ports-core-2-duo-maybe-sli-3.html#post7155958

niffcreature has a notebook just like mine, but with a different motherboard revision.
He has done a great comparison pic showing the extra components in place (the ones that I am missing on my board).

Ok guys I have a P7808u that has a dead motherboard, I can take pictures of any area you guys want on the motherboard as it sits torn apart right now. I too am looking for other P7xxx series motherboards that will work with my Q9000 CPU. I don't want to spend an additional 2-300 on top of the motherboard cost to make this work again. As Gateway discontinued this motherboard I am screwed on this laptop.

PLEASE take pictures, take the heatsink off the CPU and show us the area around the CPU socket and chipset, please take photos in high detail.

Both sides of the motherboard with the heatsinks off would be ideal

    Thank you

I told you the components you are missing are the same as the other ones, could it be that simple? youcan find them from a broken motherboard, the soldering part is really easy.

The main problem is that my motherboard is failing (my screen goes pink/green, LCD controller must not be connected properly anymore, cold solder joints failed).

So I'm thinking about getting a new notebook (because I would have to spend $200 for a quad core and another $200 for a new motherboard).

So I guess I wont really get a chance to test this.

Only chance for me is if rkcomputer can get me a new motherboard for a really cheap price (which is not very likely).
Or if something comes up on ebay (did once see a gt627 motherboard go under $100 but the guy said it froze after the bios image, didn't end up bidding on it since at the time my motherboard was fine).

Any updates on this current brain surgery? I wish I can get a q9000 into my 7805u FX (if that's possible).

I can tell you with mine it would have been a no go. Having a P79 board now I can say the power profile has a huge difference. With the new board I had to reduce the vCore significantly on the x9100. This shows the P7805 original board would not have handled the quads power requirements.

There may be other issues as well. Pimarily the needed pinout connections. Unless you are doing some severly multithreaded apps you really are better off with the x9100. Presently I only bennefit from the quad under RAW picture file editing and when converting multiple video files simulatiously, everything else actually is the same or takes a small hit.

Eventhough where I have a single or two or three threaded app the system maintains better responsiveness. so in the end that somewhat makes up for it...............
