I had some time to kill tonight and hit up Gateway's chat support in the hopes that they could shed some light on the wxga / wuxga issues.
To make a long story short, they couldn't tell me why they are shipping two different resolutions, but they did know from my serial number that I was running a wuxga screen. I made sure to save the chat log from this session.
Why does this matter? Many people have questioned how the warranties on the screens might be treated, given that the specs listed are for wxga. Well, if any problems arise, I now have proof that they knowingly sold me a wuxga screen.
I suggest you do the same.

doesnt matter... the official spec is wxga... thats what they registered with the fcc during testing i think and anyway your "confession" is from a lower level employee who is contracted from a third party firm, which makes it even harder to get "believed" when something bad arises

maybe only the lower number serial numbers have the screen

why on earth would people post there serial numbers...
Interesting tidbit on P-7805u screens
