Hey, I took out Catalyst 5.10, Why make the 128MB into a 256MB vid ram, that means its going to share about 192MB of your ram, because it is already 64MB dedicated and 64shafred hypermemory, making it to 256 will slow down your process, and trust me, you dont want to do that haha. Later guys. So you have all your processes taking 3-5% of ram each to run and your video ram, and anything else displaying on the screen and loading up, the desktop icons, try to reduce them, they take about 5% of ramfor each one. Add it up and you would want as much ram as possible ok lol. besides 128MB of shared hypermemory is good enough, if your going to go super extreme into gaming, mise will spend only 800 or less and buy an AMD 64 processor with a video card with 256MB of Dedicated video ram, possibly the 6600GT even, which is infact a very nice card. So, you choose, just trying to helo you explore your options and think about your choices. More video ram, or slow down computer processing? You decide. I can only give opinion.. Later.....

Hey Mantis! Where did you learn this stuff?! You and me are supposed to be beginners lol.

Can you tell the new catalyst to only take 64MB system ram (like the standard drivers)? Where did you learn that about the desktop icons? Is that true? Dang!

Keep on posting - I want to know how you set up the computer.

    peace brutha from another Mutha,

The 5.10s aren't worth it, and in fact incur a bit of a performance hit on the Gateway 7 series. As I'd posted before, use the 5.7s. The X600 couldn't even address more than 128MB of video memory if it wanted to; it's not fast enough.

nsl555, Im taking an A+ class in college as well called maintanance/troubleshoot hardware, something like that, so I know how to build a computer too, not also that, I have a friend in class, double my age just about, Im 20 haha, but he let me know about some of this stuff such as the desktop icons and all. I forget were eh works for, but is some kind of technology company, but he has to know everything about everything, and keep reading any new technology that comes out and learn/tell about it. His boss will ask him, "Tell me something I don't know." He has to, if he dont, he get in trouble, haha. So He's pretty **** smart, helped me tweak my registery and tought me that even though you might disable progs from starting up, a lot of times you have to manage your computer settings services and shut off the services you don't need by disabling them permanantly. Then you won't have so many system processes and your comp will go a little faster. I really look up to him which is why he is my friend, the same way I look up to my father because he is so smart, so I do my best to learn from them. Well, I type to much, this will take a while to read lol. Later guys.
