I'm interest in buying a t-1616 from best buy for 599 and the first thing I want to do is rid myself of all the bloatware by doing a clean install of Vista. Is the OS disc included or do gateways come with recovery disc or partition. I want to partition the disc for Ubuntu after the install also.

It comes with an OS disc as well as a program to burn a disc of pre-loaded applications and drivers. Boot it up, burn yourself an app/driver disc and then use the OS disc to do a clean install.

my mt3705 came with the recovery and os disc. them my brother bought a 15.4 inch model over the summer, cant rem the model, and it came with nothing but the upgrade dvd. he had to burn in recovery discs. i didnt use the gateway os disc on my clean install. i used the upgrade dvd and the program, and it worked perfectly. You may want to check that out in the HP forum, the vista clean install sticky. even if that doesnt work then you have have your recovery discs. if you dont mind calling windows you could also use the anytime dvd and activate using the code on the bottom of the laptop. and as a last option, contact gateway and tell them your backup dvd is damaged and they might just send ya the os disc. good luck.
