I might buy it today since i want to replace my desktop and use it for school.
But i am hearing things like it over heats a lot and locks up. Is this true?
-
-
oh no... it's not true... the people are only discussing fake solutions to fake issues with the p-7811fx... all of these are just make believe. no one has ever had an issue with the 7811.
i guess you get the picture already? learn to read... 1 post and thread already? wth?! -

People like me who had laptop that was deffected and gone through lots of reparing and hard ware modification are little paranoid compared to other people. this laptop is on my second, only reason was that the media keys made weird noise and had weird lcd (bubbly) look to it. so i got the second one and it happens to be one of the newer ones that has raid option on it. this one has defected keyboard and really major bad bleeding bottom of the screen if you look at it carefully, black screen gets to look purple.
However!!! bestbuy has nice return policy and I will be going there for second time to replace this little baby, despite the out look of this product, whats inside this baby is worth the trouble. I recommend this product to anyone. -
i've read about a lot of problems with them, but even so you can just exchange it for another one at best buy before the return period is over.
-
no problems here to speak of .
-
). You might want to be sure it is a new batch so you have the RAID enabled bios. If you don't care about RAID then any batch will do. BIOS flash will appear at some point. E-wrecked has the batch numbers (search hint).
Just be sure you use/run the heck out of it in case you need to implement the 14 day return policy. Run your favorite games ... that kind of thing.
Welcome to the 7811FX club in advance.
Edit: I take it back. Please do not buy a 7811FX. -
Yeah, run some good tests on it like Prime95, etc., to get it as heated as it's likely to get under normal usage, and see what happens. Test early and often, before you get too attached to it and put your entire digital life or whatever on it.
Btw I returned my first one because it froze 3 times during Call of Duty 4 on me, and a couple times doing stress tests too. My new one seems much more stable by has the slightly "bubbly" screen a poster talks about above, as well as a little light bleed from the bottom that you can see on these lappies when you have a black screen. However, both the light bleed and the bubbly are so hard to see, and the screen and other stuff is otherwise so good, that I'll keep this one unless further stress tests show there is a problem.
Overall, getting a computer this good for this price is well worth the aggravation of having to trade it in once or twice if you get lemon. Just do the testing early rather than late, like I said, before you get too attached to the computer. -
What is E-wrecked and Prime 95?
-
-
Anyways will a cooler like this
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8619676&type=product&id=1193234476472
be good enough to prevent the overheating? -
-
Prime95 is a benchmarking tool that is useful to find out if you have any defects in your laptop since it stresses your laptop (ie. 100% CPU load) and you can find out if your laptop is faulty due to heat problems, etc. -
-
-
That's because you came here and asked questions and didn't bother to read anything first. If you did read that's even worse for obvious reasons.
I usually try to have at least 5 posts on a forum before starting a fight but to each his own.
E-wrecked search results.
Prime95 Google results.
It's how the big boys do it. -
This thread is full of win!
Oh, and speaking of irrelevant........
-
(I'm cryin' even)
You would have to be a forum rat to appreciate. -
Well... anyway,
My first p-7811 suffered from the lockup issue, but my second has has no problems so far. From what I have heard, it seems like over 85% of these laptops are problem-less, and BestBuy never gives me grief when i go in for an exchange, so I would spring for it. -
The thing is, i wont be getting the geek squad warranty, it costs too much......
So i just need to know if it really is defective as in on a mass scale or on a small scale where its rare and only few people are affected.
And about laptop coolers, which one would be best? -
Look into the Targus stand that unfolds into an X with prongs on the end pointing up to rest your computer on. Super light and portable but still durable, and it doesn't block any vents. All it does is lift your laptop up so your fans can breathe. When you're done you can easily fit it in your pocket or a small space in your laptop bag. It's maybe a fist and a half long before unfolding.
The 30 buck price tag seems stupid for something so small, but compared to other laptop cooling thingies it's much cheaper than many. Anyway, I thought it was stupid until I took a chance and bought it, intending to return it if I hated it as much as I thought I would. Turns out it's great. -
-
Wont one with a fan be better though? -
-
I was not recommending Targus just providing a link to prove I could provide links.
Jury is still out. Try propping up first, you may be satisfied. Any of these fan models are good for 5 degrees at best and often less. If someone claims more I will defer to them. It's catch 22. Most of the fan models are weak CFM and often the fans are not positioned right and don't feed the vents. To use you have the laptop on the cooler which restricts the air like a table. Too many variables on vent locations.
I use a Zalman 1000 and it does help, especially when the laptop fans are cranked up, the cooler seems to feed them air faster.
But being that we have no control over our laptop fan speed, at idle sometime the laptop fans idle as higher speeds that at other times (mind of it's own). It's all very confusing. So your idle temps will not benefit much, maybe your gaming temps will somewhat.
Most 7811's run cool (some claim higher temps ???).
This is mine right now on a Zalman 1000 fan maxed. High temp was playing Company of Heroes. I unplugged the cooler while typing this and temps have not moved. All situations vary but coolers have more effect when lap fans are cranked.

OH Ya ... forgot a link.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Syn: You're a riot man.
Dook: Sometimes you go over my head. Way over my head. However I liked the walrus.
And to the original poster..mad, check it out..you've probably heard there's no such thing as a dumb question. And that is true. However, most if not all questions you will think of regarding the 7811FX have likely been covered to some degree in this forum. No one is trying to be rude, but please put some effort into maybe finding answers that others have already researched and supplied. If for some CRAZY reason ya can't find an answer..start another useless thread. We all just do it sometimes.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 2, 2015 -
wth?! there's a an entire thread which compiles stuff from other threads just for this dude who doesn't even bother to read before posting a thread?
-
I hear he is an evil mad boy!
-
i hope he doesn't add to the two threads he already made out of a whim just because he's too lazy to search for answers or even ask for answers in previously created threads...
@evil
don't buy the 7811. i don't think you're gonna want to deal with the trouble with trying out things. let alone, reading posts... -
-
yeah... i know... but thing is... i asked questions in threads that have already piled up... when someone told me that answers are available, i started from page 1 and read through everything of everything... now i barely even post... i've taken the point and didn't push through with other queries about answered questions...
and on another note... they are not threads... there were a couple of questions i asked that were pretty sad but thing is, i didn't defend myself saying that i don't have time for reading and want MY questions answered IMMEDIATELY. instead, i read...
well, dook. i respect you a lot and i got your point that i shouldn't point fingers yet. but thing is, reading through these threads has already been my ritual for a month now and i don't think you see me posting any thread since the one i did way back when i started (which may i include was moved to the main p7811 thread).
i just dislike it when instead of reading through threads that are actually new (and somewhat useful)... i find myself reading through a thread that is a remake of a question that has been answered before. my apologies for being vindictive. -
-
i don't know why everyone gets so worked up about posting duplicate questions... this is a discussion forum after all, not just a source of reference... personally, i wouldn't enjoy hanging out here if it was just a bunch of sticky threads with moderators deleting duplicate info. half of the fun of participating on a discussion forum is the peripheral/humorous stuff that goes along with new threads, regardless of topic or status of "original questioning".
btw, half the time, i find more useful info in a more concise format in the so-called "duplicate" threads, since some considerate members summarize conculsions in a few paragraphs that might take me days to find reading many hundreds of posts...

click on gateway and emachines right up top... titles are all in there of different issues with p-7811fx so i don't believe that even an idiot won't be able to know that there ARE a lot of issues with this laptop... and that it's random.
well if you think that i've posted a lot of topics, why don't you start reading from page 1 of owner's lounge and p-7811fx official thread and have a look see yourself. but i guess you don't have time for that either.
edit: buy it: spend more time reading
don't buy it: less reading
you do the math. -
i wasn't referring to you specifically, i was just making a general observation about most discussion boards
fwiw, i normally do spend time reading through long topic threads to find info (it's also very useful to understand how the info was arrived at and what was tried, etc...) i just don't understand the crusade to erradicate duplication that happens on most discussion forums...
just start a wiki instead of forums...
mjb -
yeah... i get your point an7mo... imma try that once my unit arrives.
and reason why i personally dont like dupes is that reading through forums and stumbling upon threads that have been made and answered before is a bit annoying... especially when the question has already been answered by the main page of the threads itself (ie gateway and emachines). -
Create a FAQ topic, by searching every thread/post with questions and answers and just post the Q&A in them. And that way if anyone posted a topic regarding something in "your" FAQ then you can be an *** to them. -
-
Time to bury the hatchet. Let's all keep a stiff upper lip and keep out noses to the grind stone. And remember, a stitch in time saves nine.
Is it true that the P-7811FX has a lot of problems?
