HI Guys,
What do you think about switching from p-7811fx to p-7805u fx?
Is it worth it ? what is a 3dmark06 score for p-7805u
your help will be very much appreciated. :
thanks

The only real differences are:
120GB more HD space
512 GB video RAM
Neither will appreciably improve performance on most current games. If you already have the 7811, I see little benefit in upgrading. -

No its a pretty useless upgrade from the 7811. Save your money and buy a 320gb hard drive. Its the exact same machine at that point.
The 7805 was a better release than the 7811, but only from an older platform. any of the 78xx series are basically the same and wont have any better preformance over the others. -
agree with Samdari and Batman himself!
-
not unless the upgrage is free or very close to it. As stated you can get a 320gig 7200rpm easily and the video ram should not be a deal breaker either.
-
the 3dmarks on the 7805 is around 87xx (8709) as stated by MrPresident when he tested the 7805 test unit @ his Bestbuy. when i tested my stock 7811 I got 87xx(8739) as well... therefore I can conclude that the extra 1gb ram actually does nothing and merely there as a gimmick
-
The only advantage I remember is that the 1GB 9800M might be made on a smaller process. It won't affect performance, but it might affect heat.
-
go run gta4 and you'll find about if that 1 gig of video memory gets used up or not....

A 4.0gHz quad core with a 9600 class card will run GTA4 better than a 2.4dual core with even 1gb 9800m GTS cards in SLI.
Its a very CPU heavy game for some reason.
I still dont think the card can even address the extra 512 of memory. I would love someone to install 8gigs of RAM in one of these computers to see if the same amount of memory is useable. If they are the same then the cards probably dont even tell the computer that extra vRAM exists -
when i was messing around with it:
now i can up that 1003 to what ever number or how much memory i have in the computer at the time, but to much will cause the system to crash. -

true, but your also running a 9800m GTX(or 2... you lucky git
) which is a 256 or 512 bit card correct?
From everything i've seen the 128bit cards cant address 1gig or vRAM.
Now they might can address the RAM, but it seems to me its back to nVidias old school tricks where they would release 7400 cards with GOBS of vRAM even though the cards couldnt use it because people see a larger number in computer componets and assume (usually correctly) that its better. -
hahahaha. my 2 cards aint helping me do anything when it comes to gta4. im stuck using one card. lol.
my cards are 256 bit just like yours is pal. who has a 128 bit card??
but yeah, this game will make or break a video card and cpu for sure.
now with crysis, i went from 512 to 1 gig and i seen a smoother game play with crysis. and now with gt4 and how they ported it. it's based off of video card ram then system ram and cpu. and yes, all four cores are up there! lol -

GeForce 9800M GTX 112 420 256-bit 51GB/s
GeForce 9800M GT 96 360 256-bit 51GB/s
GeForce 9800M GTS 64 240 256-bit 51GB/s
GeForce 9700M GTS 48 180 128-bit 26GB/s
GeForce 9700M GT 32 148 128-bit 26GB/s
Columns (Name - SP - gigaFLOPS - Interface - Bandwidth)
I found this... i guess the 9700's are the last of the 128bit cards them.(must remember ... research more)
I take it back the cards can address the space. I guess theres just nothing to use it for.
I need a 7811 and 7805 now so i can start screwing with the system memory settings to see if you can make the card use the 1gb and go longer before having to pull from system RAM. -
yeah, that would be a good test for you.
i have only known it to work with gta4. and smoother play on crysis, but cant verify if it's using more than 256 to 512 of the card. i really need a good video memory monitoring program... -
GTA4 is a CPU-intensive game because it's a port. Ports are notoriously inefficient, and GTA4 was specifically designed to run on the multi-core XBox 360 and PS3.

yeah, i keep hearing that...

Now that Rossman26 has reported that the newer 7805s are coming out with only 1440x900 displays, I would not make the switch from the 7811 which of course has the 1920x1200 resolution. Upgrading to a new 320GB drive is only $89 at Newegg.com.
Is it worth it to change from p-7811fx to p-7805u fx ?
