currently have 6831 with original CPU.
    I'm getting
    farcry2 20-25 fps med setting
    fallout 3 40-60fps med-high setting
devil may cry 60fps with ultra high

    Planning to play mmorpg(aion,wow,lineage2,etc)

Is it worth spending 300-400 on x9000 cpu?
will i able to get 60fps on farcry in high setting with x9000?
or should i wait few months and upgrade my laptop to 7811?

Right now I'm playing devil may cry4 and plan to play fallout3 next when i beat dmc4. Going over to mmorpg when i get to states(ini iraq right now)

    Thank you.
I want to play my games on desktop but being in the Army with PCS,deployment, oversea assignment etc is keeping me away from good gamings.

also if i do upgrade will x7900 fit on my laptop and be able to overclock? or was it x7800

you will want to look at these cpus: T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500, X7800, X7900, or X9000 for an upgrade to your cpu.

i have a T9300 and it works beautifully since day 1. very good frame rates on most every game (World in Conflict/Crysis/Crysis warhead being the exceptions)

Is it worth it... according if you want the x9000 or not.

I love mine, but i think the sweet spot for most people is the t9300. It gives you alot of bang for your buck and runs cold as ice.

You'll notice a huge jump in abilities of your CPU with a t9300, you'll get a larger jump in CPU abilities going to the x9000 but you'll get the higher heat and price tag to go along with it.

So really either choice is fine and i would recommend them both. If all you want it for is gaming then i would say the t9300 and the x9000 is overkill for almost everything but CPU intensive applications (like rendering a planetary model like i use mine for)

imho the performance gain (any?) from a 7811 over an upgraded 6831 is not worth the headache of selling one's rig, buying refurbished, hoping its good etc.

get a t9300 and there is nothing you are missing out, well aside the high res display and slightly longer battery life.

when the new i7 notebook equipped with 4870 mobility or 260M are around, that will change (don't hold your breath).

Just to let you know my thoughts on the t9300 for what they're worth:

I have a 6860 so almost the same machine less 1gb ram...

I didn't notice much difference in windows but more recently in gaming i've seen huge gains. The biggest would be crysis b\c I could run it on high before the t9300 and now on enthusiast (very high called enthusiast on crysis warhead) with slight lag, slight. With the old processor no way could I begin to play with very high wayyyy to laggy. I run it on high just to have better performance but it def made a big difference. Another game I can mention is NFS undercover, IDK how it would run before the upgrade but I can run it on all max settings with silky smooth performance. Again initially I wasn't impressed but after checking out some games-to me- it seems significantly improved.

I found mine on ebay for $250 shipped, I installed easily and works great. I personally avoided the x series of processors b\c people talk about managing heat issues and I didn't want that b\c I need my pc for school too... Its up to you but if money is an issue look at the x7800 b\c it overclocks well (so i've read) and is comparable in price to the t9300. If $ is no object than sure get the x9000 why not? Just remember heat is a little more of an issue due to the higher performance you gain...

Good Luck and happy high fps gaming!

at least with the 7811 you can't oc past 3.0ghz so i'm assuming it is the same for urs, and in that case i would say get the X7800 cheapest xtreme cpu and most r saying it is easily capable of running at 3.0ghz...
