    Is my 7805u faulty?

Hmm, could you guys help me?
Well, I've had this machine since January... and only now am I realizing something is wrong. I'm pretty new to computers in general, and this is my first gaming laptop. At first I thought it was fine... but after reading everybody's experiences on how their machine can run a ton of games smoothly on 1920x1200 maxed out, I'm disappointed with mine. In Team Fortress 2, when I first spawn I will get around 100 fps (with nothing happening), but if I walk into an area with little to no action, my fps will drop to around 30-50. In firefights I will get around 20-30 fps.
Oh, and here's the kicker... I'm running on 1440x900 on all low. And no anti aliasing. This same thing happens in HL2 Deathmatch, as well... but sometimes it will drop to 20 fps if I look at certain walls.

In UT3, I can't even get a stable 60 fps on 1280x800 on all high, with no anti aliasing. In action it will drop down to 30-40 fps, and when standing by myself I will only get about 65 fps.

I am using the latest (I believe) Dox drivers, 182.46. I have my machine overclocked to 710/950/1750.
The weird thing about all of this, though, is that in 3dmark06, I will get a score from 9200 to 9400, which is around what most people are getting, and who have a better gameplay experience than I do.

So, I was wondering if you all could help me out and tell me whether or not I'm doing something wrong or if my 7805u has faulty parts...
I'm not too excited to turn it in for repairs or exchange it, for I have the 1920x1200 model and I'm not interested in the 1440x900 model.
Everything is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

    1) Make sure your Power Options is set to High Performance (Left click the battery icon at the bottom and a box with three options will show, Click High Performance)
    2) Make sure you're plugged in to the AC port.
    3) Download HWMonitor (Google it) and let it run while you run a game for a little while and post what the temps show.

Oh haha, woops, I forgot to mention that I do have it on high performance, with the minimum and maximum cpu rates to 100% and plugged in.

I'll download HWMonitor asap and show what I get...

Just checkin, most people make the mistake of not putting it on High Performance and/or keeping it unplugged :p

From HWMonitor I'll be able to tell you if its overheating.

Okay, this is what I got after about 30-50 minutes playing TF2, click here

Lol, listen, it took me forever to realize that there were even power settings on this thing... so I'm always making sure it's on high performance xD

    Thanks!

60 degrees as max temp for gpu is pretty good.
    are you using a cooler?
and have you tried using original nvidia drivers?

ive recently switch to latest nvidia beta drivers and it works much better than dox drivers for me.
make sure to install the drivers correctly by following the guide.
use pcdecrapifier and ccleaner to make your pc run faster.
make sure you have no virus with av tool. i recommend eset nod32.

Nope, no cooler... but then again, my system isn't running as good as it should!

I've tried the nvidia drivers... the same thing still happens.
And I've run both of those programs and antivirus... still nothing.
    Hmm

I'd get rid of the overclock first. go back to stock and check these games you listed.

Going back to the nvidia drivers and removing the overclock doesn't do much...
In TF2, all low, no anti aliasing at 1440x900 I still get 30-40 fps on average, 100-ish when alone. On all high, no anti aliasing the fps don't seem to change much...

In UT3, 1280x800, all high, no antialiasing, I still get the same 60 fps standing alone, 40-50 when in firefights. On all low with no enhancements checked, I still get 40-50 in firefights, 60 alone.

Needless to say, it didn't help much xD

i had the same problem you did and found out it was the driver settings controlling the frequency of the ram and core. with the beta win 7 all was good but when i installed a diff driver my core would max out at 600mhz for like 10 seconds then down 400mhz and ram would be normal then down to like around 200mhz needless to say it ran horrible. i switched to dox drivers 182.46? (which ever one is the newer one) but im pretty sure its just the powermizer settings. if you disable that you could see a dramatic increase in performance. it also wont run like a dell on battery power with it off.(yeah ive had some bad experiences with dells)

try disabling the powermizer and see if that works else try a different driver. oh also free memspace on your hdd could affect it as well.

No its fine, anybody that says they play blah blah game at 1920*1200 with max settings is a liar. Unless its under these standards

-the game was made in the year 2003 and older

    - the game runs 10 frames per second or lower.

You're completely wrong. You can play Call of Duty 4, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Test Drive Unlimited, Bioshock, Half Life 2 (all episodes) all with max settings... The list goes on.

Want proof? Go youtube "7811 FX" or any Gateway FX model and you'll see people uploading 1920x1200 videos of games.

Here's a guy playing GTA IV at 1920x1200 (19-25 fps):

dunno if the forums here have a guide but here is a guide i used a long time ago to disable the power mizer (i say used to use because after so many installs of diff drivers i memorized what to change already lol)

EDIT: by the way i was playing dead space a few days ago at 1920x1080 dunno what the fps were but it was running smooth.

Have to agree with you on this. I have had superb performance with the stock configuration at the highest resolutions.

I only use RealFlight G4.5 and Vega Strike. Vega Strike runs maxed at 300 FPS and G4.5 runs at 200 FPS. I started up the AA etc but frame rates were still high. I did the trial of WoW and saw no lower that 80FPS maxed out there. Crysis seemed good at 1280x800 started getting choppy at 1400x900 but still very playable.

I am not a real gamer by an stretch but when these are running properly they play games extreemly well even at 1900x1200.

    Thanks you all!
I disabled the Powermizer, and I am getting a lot better fps in TF2. 1920x1200 all high, 2xAA I get around 60fps... but sometimes it will drop to about 30-40 at seemingly random times and when there's some action on screen.
But for some reason, I don't seem to get better fps when downing the resolution to 1440x900...

Hmmm, this is pretty weird, to me...
On 1920x1200, I get about 20-40 fps in firefights, all high, 2xAA.
But, if I turn off AA, set everything to low, and drop the resolution to 720, I see no improvement, whatsoever.
Powermizer is off, battery setting is set to high performance, no overclock, and using nvidia drivers. Does anyone know why I don't get any performance boost when lowering the settings?

When resolution setings make no difference then the bottle neck is elsewhere. It could be the CPU, Memory or HDD...........
