So yeah, got my replacement 7811fx after the first one locked up randomly during games (locked up completely, I had to hold the shutdown button to make it shut down and then turn it on again.)
Long story short, this laptop locks up too, there was no problem when I had the geek squad check it at best buy, but as soon as I tried to play again when i got home, it locked up. I'm almost positive it's a faulty nvidia card, but I could be wrong, so if someone knows how to fix this PLEASE help me. I live in Mexico (no racist remarks please) and it takes like 3 hours to get to the nearest best buy (which is in texas, in the US) and I don't want to waste more weekends going over there just so I can get a faulty notebook![]()
And if there are no fixes, can someone tell me exactly what to say to the guys at BB so that they know exactly what the problem is (so that they can check the replacement to see if it's faulty too)
thanks in advance.

If you live in Mexico, I would just suggest returning it and paying a little extra for a different notebooks. Lots of people have exchanged it multiple times already because of problems. But they live in USA so its easy for them. There is no garuentee your next one will work perfectly, and you will just waste money and time coming back to exchange it. The time + money you waste going there 3 hours and coming back 3 hours can probably make up for the difference between a 7811 and another great gaming machine.

*SIGH* yeah, that is the most logical answer, but **** man, i'm in love with the thing. Is there another gaming notebook (preferably with an ATI video card) as good as this one?
-
You could try getting the 6860FX. 7811FX is the new version of the 6860FX, but the 6860FX didnt have any known issues as far as I know. I know that some people (i saw this on slickdeals) were able to pick up the 6860FX for 700-800 at their bestbuys, but that varies on location.
It has a NVIDIA card tho. I cant really think of a notebook that has a 8800/9800 equivalent ATI card. If you want a less stronger card, you can pick up the Gateway M-6862 from bestbuy for 599. It has the Radeon HD 2600 GDDR3 card. -
But isn't the 8800 the center of the nvidia defective GPU problem? I was thinking more of buying a normal notebook and a crapload of xbox games and save the cash form the PC games I could return.
Or who knows, i might just sell the games and keep this laptop, still a great laptop, just wouldn't be able to play. -
well, i think it's a heat problem, since i've noticed how every time the part under my right palm gets hot while gaming=lockup, so tomorrow i'll try a laptop cooler, if I can play with the laptop cooler, then I'll keep it, if not, i'll get a vaio or something.

Well if it's a heating problem then some of them seem 100x more sensitive to heat.
I'm having the lock-up problem too. This is infuriating. I've tried a few fixes but nothing has worked so far.
Does anyone know if using the recovery CDs that came with it helps? -
I agree with Lak on this one. Return the 7811 and look for a 6831 or 6860. It's going to be harder for you to do swaps with the 7811, living in Mexico. It sucks to even have to say that, as the 7811 would be an awesome machine otherwise. Hopefully GW will iron out the wrinkles soon. -
well, i'm going to try a system restore and some other stuff first, there's just no explanation, i've disproved heating being the problem since I played TF2 for like 5 min and locked up, the thing didn't even get warm.
If that doesn't work then i'll get the 6860, even if graphics aren't as good.
Is there a fix for lock ups?
