*I read the batch numbers thing but i did not find a secure pattern.

If you played around with their display model, was it AOU, LG 1920x1200 OR just a 1440x900 screen?
Did you get a similar screen to the one on display?
i.e. they had a display model with the aou 1920x1200, did you open the box to find the AOU 1920, LG 1920, or 1440x?

Just my opinion - it's a roll of the dice. BUT, if you're looking for the higher resolution it would appear as if your chances are greater from the responses on this forum.

As far as the LG vs AOU - I have an AOU which to some is supposed to be the inferior one but to me, I can't imagine it looking any better.

Not sure if the display model would be determinative. My local BB has had an LG 1920 on display for quite some time but only got stock about a week ago.

The display model batch number almost certainly has to be lower than the two units that arrived last week. Now, they're OOS again but the display model hasn't changed.

Display won't matter. It could be from early on (so it would always be a 1920x1200) unless someone bought the display model.

Seriously stop asking questions that no one can definitively answer. There's a whole batch number thread, that's about as good as it's going to get right now or possibly ever.

    Who are you? lol
I asked a question that no one has asked yet. it could help to see a pattern besides an unsorted batch numbers list. Worse comes to worse ill pick up the display model

Just read the freakin list, All H batches have been 1920x1200 and all I batches under I007000 are 1920x1200. There are SOME newer batches that have 1920x1200 again but if you want a garuntee get one of those old batch #s if you can find it. Otherwise no one here knows any magic secrets beyond whats listed in the threads.

I'm not really sure what part of ALL H BATCHES and under I007000 are 1920x1200 wasn't clear. Batches above I007000 are where you start seeing 1440x900, but there are some exceptions that still have 1920x1200s, if you want an easy way to find them I don't know how on earth I can possibly make this more clear to you.

The AUO is 60hz, I'm pretty sure they all are though, higher refresh LCDs are pretty rare, especially in laptops.

check barcode of the box on the side. if SNID# is greater than 85072894322
    there's good chance it's 1440x900.
my defected 7805u was one of the last line for having 1920x1200 screen and the next one i've got had 8512xxxxxxx and it was 1440x900.
alternatively, you can open the box and check the date. as soon as you open the box, you will see date and version of the model. if the date is any later than 12/14/2008 version 1, it's 1440x900. second one i've got had 12/16/2008 version 1 so i was hoping it to be 1920x1200 but it turned out to be 1440x900. be warned though. if you open the box, they will charge you 15% open box fee unless the unit is defected.
i had to argue with manager for nearly 2 hours and finally exchanged my first defected 1920x1200 unit to another 1920x1200 unit. no way, i was going to accept exchange to 1440x900 one.

Thanks, but is there no correlation with batch numbers and date of manufacture? Put differently, wouldn't a higher batch number indicate the unit was built later than a lower batch number? Below are some of the numbers reported in the batch number thread:

    I012031 - 12/17/08 - 1440
    I014198 - 1920
    I021851 - 1920
    I022307 - 1/7/09 - 1440

I was assuming (which I fully admit could be a completely erroneous assumption) that the two units with higher numbers (listed above as I014198 and I021851) were built *after* batch number I012031 (or later than 12/17/08) yet they have 1920 screens.

i could be wrong though.. i only saw 3 units. 1st defected one was shipped(or manufactured) on 12/14/2008 version 1 and had that SNID#.
and second one i've got was 12/16/2008 version one and had higher SNID#.
so i argued with manager and third one i got had date of 12/10/2008 version 1
and its SNID# was way lower than my 1st defected 1920x1200.

i didn't check batch # though. hopefully that helps. :(

or just grab 7811fx. i have both 7805u and 7811 fx and they are pretty much same(except -100gb hdd).
i've got almost same benchmark 06 score as well(8672 vs 8738).. you can grab 7811fx for $1000 on
ebay. if you really want 1920x1200 one, i would get 7811fx for now and get new model
after 3-4 months when gateway releases improved fx model(and sell 7811fx around that time
    of course).

Well, I'm basically just flat out of time. I need to get this (er, whatever) either tomorrow or the day after - it's a b-day gift for my son and we were planning to give it to him on Sunday.

He's probably going to be thrilled either way. Since he'll be using it primarily for gaming, he actually might prefer the 1440 screen. I'm the one who's been obsessing over the screen res issue and it might turn out to be a non-issue.
