    Hi,

i was thinking to myself is there going to be a new Gateway FX laptop released soon to replacce the P-7805u?

I was trying to get the P-7805u, but recently it has disappeared from BB stores (marked as "outlet item"), not on TD or Newegg either. Only some can be found on eBay. (P-7808, seems to have disappeared completely)

Does any of u know, about a new FX series laptop coming up? I really want to get a Gateway (mainly because its cheap), but dunno whether should i wait a little or look for an alernative laptop.

Who knows what is on the minds of the Gateway folks?

They have two models which have only been out for about 7 to 8 months - 7801u and 7805u - the only difference being the first has a WUXGA screen and the 05u has a WSXGA, and yet they can't keep from mixing the screens on the 05u. Even with that, it appears that all of either model that they've produced, they've sold.

Why discontinue a model that is selling so well?

    Dunno.

Why mix up the screens on the 05u?

    Dunno.

Oh, and don't forget to put the 7807u in the mix. Uh, now that I think about it, why did they even put the 07u in the mix?

    Dunno.

CNET journalist Dan Ackerman has noticed this, as well as the rest of the CNET staff and will be doing an article this week or next asking Gateway what's up. I have also written about this before that the 7808u has been wiped off the face of the planet (can't be found anywhere, not even Ebay) and the 7805u can scarecly be found anywhere with few Ebay items here and there. With Best Buy having the 7805u in limited supply and Best Buy reps (Best Buy managers/friends in my city) saying that they don't plan on restocking the item either (ie item number will be removed from their system), tells me one thing...
Gateway plans to drop on all of us a new FX line of laptops soon, probably sooner than we know...

Oh, and here is the email from Dan Ackerman about the FX:

It is really overdue for a refresh in regards to the fact that it had previously been that way, that being a new one at bestbuy every 3 months or so...

...but I think the bad economy and the trifecta of Windows7, a new intel mobile CPU line and DX11 on the horizon prevents any major changes.

Maybe the 07u quad opens the door to another CPU offering [P8800 model?], but since the next GPU up from the GTS is the GTX260m, a CPU change or Blu-Ray are the extent of the possibilities.

They could be waiting for the 32nm technology which will be released this year. But with the GPU intergrated into the motherboard, they are not very flexible, so more likely a new MB will need to be made = new model. Now lets hope that it's not gonna be a small refreshment, because the made so many allready: 7801/7805/7807/7808/7811... so I'm guessing that a new one will not be a benefit for them.

Maybe their next models that they will be dropping soon will be the 8XXX series.
I am crossing my fingers of your optimism though thegreatsquare, putting the GTX 260m in their next FX line up would be SWEET as Gateway likes to keep their laptops at a low cost. Also, I've been looking at Sager's NP8662 model because of the GTX 260m and if Gateway puts that card in their next FX's, I'll grab the Gateway for sure (with no thoughts of deviation ;)!) I can see them doing like last time though, low priced model will be a Core 2 Duo and their higher costing model having a Core 2 Duo Quad (Q9000).
Unless they plan on making everyone go bonkers with the lowest model having the lowest Core 2 Duo Quad (Q9000) and highest Model having the lowest i7 (920)... Hey I can dream :p!

I'm very excited about the new release. Stopped by my local BB yesterday and they had one left (floor model) and I just wasn't ready to put the money down for it. Hopefully the new release will be lighter. I just can't seem to decide between the Gateway, Sager 8662 and the 15" MSI. Damn you Gateway!!!

I doubt it. Nothing new really, processor only 174Mhz faster, and again the full HD screen. Same as 7807.

HAHA thats funny. WOW, they must've never heard of the ASUS G50vt or MSI GT727, at low prices such as 900-1100USD which can prolly beat the scores of it with a lil OC at nearly 1/3 the price.

    Doesn't the 7807 have the 1440 x 900 screen?

    Doesn't the 7804 have dual 320's?

I don't think we'll get the 04 either - it is like the 07 but with WUXGA, Bluetooth, and dual 320 HD's.

Man that sucks. I was planning on getting this laptop in July but it seems like I'll be out of luck by then. Not many better options out there from what I know for price.

We'r waiting for Cnet to say something bout this case, as da1writer said.

Yeh, same here, I'm so disappointed that it's not available anymore. Well, i found a different (budget?) gaming laptop - ASUS G51, it's more expensive, but has better hardware than Gateway. It's gonna be released in July though.

So I need a beast of a laptop for my graphic design major requirement... (Screw Macs.)

I figured the 7805 would be a good monster to do the job. With more power and half the price of a Macbook Pro, I was set on getting the laptop. I went to Best Buy to pick it up... only to find out they were pulled from the shelves a week prior.

So now I am faced with a dilemma... buy one online and go with a sure fire bet of getting a great laptop... or wait until the last minute before next semester starts and hope Gateway releases another to take this one's spot before then...

I think I am going to wait. It's been discouraging though to see no new announcements. I check daily, because nothing even comes close to this computer's power to price ratio.

Hopefully the new one has a 200 series Nvidia card in it? (Just announced, but may take a while to come out.)

Who knows. But I hope that this thread will stay alive so we can have some eyes on the market and we can see if anything turns up. Let's hope for the best!

P.S. everyone I've talked to at Best Buy seems to think they will release another one. They said they always keep them comin, so I'm prayin that it comes sooner than later.

Well, now that I think about it some more, I would have no doubt that Gateway will continue the FX gaming line - both desktops and notebooks.

I may well be that they are about to introduce some new ones - P-88 series?. By all accounts, it appears that the 78xx series sold very well. I still suspect that the 1920/1440 monitor confusion on the 7805u's may be due to a commitment to Best Buy that was difficult for Gateway to meet in the contracted time frame without putting the 7805u label on systems that originally were supposed to be 7801u's. In any event, it seems that the series has sold very well so I would be surprised if they don't either continue it or update it.

Remember, what has made these FX's successful isn't that they are a great gaming notebook, it is that they are a great gaming notebook at the price point. It would not be a good business decision to discontinue or not replace a successful product, would it?

I'm wondering if they are going to release a new motivina based system or hold off until nehelam is released (3rdish quater this year)

I would love them to wait, but it seems a very long time to not have a computer on the market. Its actually got me a bit worried. They've never went this long with out a FX laptop available. :(

I went down to Best Buy today, and asked an employee about the refresh. He said they'd already gotten in a model, and that the planned release date was the 28th. o_0

I might just be completely wrong, but yeah, that's my two cents.

As opposed to a long time user since may and 9 posts, pot meet kettle ;)

Sometimes some really good info has come from brand new members. Such as we had all of the stats on the 7811 about 3 weeks before everyone else online due to a brand new member scanning us a copy of his Best Buy's computer system.

Trust but verify, we're still waiting on the verify part, but as of when I hit up my local best buy they didnt have anything in their systems. Might have missed the "update" time or something so its possible i just had bad timing.

But until proof is shown i'm still in the "we're gonna have to wait" catagory :(

i really hope they add a 16:9 LED screen, a hinge similar to the dell studio or macbooks. That was one of my biggest gripes with the 7805u, it was a very tall laptop! and maybe switch over to a 9800GTX or GT, im sure nvidia is trying to unload them with their new 280x out.

Wow... the G-51 might not be too bad, if it's price range falls where they say it will. 1,300 to 1,500 is not TOO bad.

If Gateway lets me down, I will check that computer out when the time comes. Finally! A laptop I can rebound to!

Alright people, sorry I've been gone for a while. I actually didn't want to come back to this thread until Dan emailed me with more information or CNET posted an article about this. I emailed Dan Ackerman last week and this week about the status and hasn't gotten back to me. So now I ask you guys to help me. I believe one voice is not enough to spark an incentive to get this article up and running faster, sooooo...
Here's Dan Ackerman's email! (business mind you, not personal.)
    Dan . Ackerman @ cnet . com
Flood his work inbox with emails (please don't spam) of your concern over
"Is there gonna be a new model to replace P-7805u?"
With enough emails I'm sure we will see something pop up on CNET within a few days because of a few or more "voices" ;)!

    NOTE:
Just Remove the Spaces to have his email address. I put them in because i dont want a crawler picking up his email address and spaming him to death.

Cheaper nothing. I would be more than happy with the lowest grade i7 in a laptop... assuming it doesnt catch on fire and burn me to death (which is why i have neber "really" trusted the desktop Sagers)

I still cant wait for Capella to hit the markets. I've taken my 6860 as far as it can go powerwise. So i'm waiting eagerly for the capella notebooks to open up some intresting avenues for me. 35watt 2.0gHz quads sound nice (though i would like 2.4-2.6 better)

Maybe Gateway is waiting for the i5's to come out, way cheaper than the i7 (and probably less lap burning too).

Core 2 Duo and Quads on the way out? Maybe that's why they are trying to empty stock of the 7805u (they already cleared the stock of the 7808u)...

As long as the core i3 i5 and i7 are interchangeable i'll be fine. I'd hate to get a newest generation i5 CPU and realize that i7 is an untouchable god to me that i can never have with out dumping 3K on a base unit
