I am thinking about taking one from JR. it is cheaper than Bestbuy but I am really worried about the quality of the product. You know for Bestbuy you can always return it in your local store. I have no idea if the custumos service is good in JR(as good as newegg?) or not. Do you guys think it safe to buy from JR. I greatly appreciate any advice.

It's still better to get the 7801u since you get the 1920x1200 screen...

Correct, but for around the same price...for 7807, you get a better processor.

I do not really care about the resolution(I am using 1024*768 on my 17 laptop right now) so I guess I'll take the 7807. What I am worried is that, if the computer got some problem(which seems to be pretty common for the gateway laptops), can I easily got it exchanged or repaired from JR?

Not as good as best buy. Its been a week and a half, and i just got notified that theyre sending the replacement laptop bag- def not deal not want to deal w/ them again.

BTW: If you do end up returning something, they will make you pay for the shipping. I just received my replacement, but it's the wrong item. Then the customer went into a scripted jive, that I can't write anything in their box, etc. etc.

Buyer beware: Make sure that if you do order from J&R that you know for sure that you will keep the item- Otherwise, get ready to be frustrated---

does 1920x1200 screen make noticable difference over 1440x900? yes
does p8600 make noticable difference over p8400? no

really.. p-7807 seems big waste of money. go for p-7801u and just
buy es chip and sell that p-8400. you can get t9500 for around $150 or less
and sell p-8400 for $150+. it's kinda annoying but you get better screen and
better cpu that way. besides p-7807 don't support quad-core or does it?
if it were to support quad-core, it might worth the money but if not, no. =(

I program a lot and personally prefer larger letter on the screen, so screen is not a issue for me at all.
If 7801/05 support quad, I guess 7807 should support as well since they use pretty much the same motherboard. Am I correct? Somebody have definite answer?
    Thanks a lot.

ppls say p-7801 or 7805 supports quad.. it's just that there's no bio to enable it. i suppose 7807 works same way. i just want to have better
screen if i were to pay same price, that's all. it's not like you can't lower your resolution on 1920x1200 sceen. it gives just you more freedom. you can have 1440x900, 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 on 1920x1200 screen but on 1440x900 screen can't go any higher than that even if you want to. besides, p8600 isn't noticable step up from p8400. it's practically same processor with same power. i could hardly notice any difference on speed in real world performance even when i upgraded from p8400 to t9600 besides obviously higher synthetic benchmark score. so i am very positive p8600 won't even
make any difference in real world performance for sure besides maybe 100 points higher benchmark or something which means nothing in real world performance.

Yeah, a better screen brings more freedom, that's very true. In your sig I see X9100 on your 7805, pardon me for asking a noob question, do you need to do anything special to upgrade to X9100, like update the BIOS or a new mod on the heat sink? I am kind of confused
