I just got my Gateway P-7805u FX (refurbished) laptop today (1920x1200 res) and I'm VERY happy with it - except for 1 thing! The outside of the LCD cover, the part where the FX logo is printed on it, has two very noticeable scratches on it (the scratches are both kind of circular, as if something was rubbing against it, and are both about the size of a quarter)! :-(
I'm extremely disappointed that Gateway would refurbish a notebook PC and re-sell it in this condition (it was in a Gateway factory-sealed box)! I'm going to keep the laptop as it otherwise appears to be in brand-new condition, but I expected better from Gateway, especially since I bought my wife a refurbished Gateway laptop earlier this year and it appeared to be in brand-new shape!
So, now I have a question - where can I obtain the back cover for the LCD; I'd like to replace it? I'm not talking about the bezel around the LCD; I'm talking about the LCD back cover with the FX logo on it? Does that only come with a new LCD or can it be purchased seperately? I'd actually, if possible, would like to buy the cover from one of the brand-new FX laptops that just came out with that new graphic on it!
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Dennis

Gateway doesnt actually refurbish the computers. Its a third party company that buys up all of the for sale stock and puts them back on the market.
As to where to get a new cover... ebay is generally the best place to look for spare parts -
While I don't have a suggestion,
I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done to remove (buff out?) the scratches?
Anyone got a solution? -

You could try the same techniques that are used to repair auto finishes. Its a bit extreme on a laptop, but it should remove most minor imperfections (according to how deep the gouges actually are)
If the marks are two deep you could use filler and buff it smooth again then repair/clear coat the area
Just Got My New (Well, Refurbished!) P-7805u FX!!
