Well basically, my laptop wasn't cutting it anymore (in sig). L4D was running at an average 30FPS on medium settings at 1440x900 and that isn't acceptable to me.

So I decided to go back to desktops for my main gaming rig and spent a good $900 on the following: Intel E8500 3.16GHZ || ASUS P5Q-E || XFire Sapphire Radeon 4850 || Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer || Corsair 4GB Ram || (1)WD 640GB HDD

I'm hoping I can at least run my games at 1680 x 1050 on high settings with this new build, which I believe I will be able to do without a sweat.

However, I began to think how much of a performance boost would I see if I just upgraded my laptop's CPU to a T9300 ($330 off newegg). You think I'd be able to run a somewhat constant 60 FPS in L4D, at least 1680 x 1050 on high with the CPU upgrade? Anyone here put in a T9300 in their 6831-FX? What kind of numbers are you getting.

    Decisions, decisions.

Edit: Nevermind. I found my answer, which is that upgrading to a T9300 would only help so much, but not enough for me. If a mod wants to delete this thread they can.

i got a T8300, about 3-5 FPS increase in most FPS, more in RTS. i don't believe a T9300 can do much better than that from what i have heard

Isn't Left for Dead a source game though? And aren't source games traditionally heavily CPU dependent?

lol that was def a driver issue man, you should have been fine to max that game, i guess depending on how many units are on the screen, that stock CPU might not cut it.

Nah. The updating to the newest laptopvideo2go drivers helped, but still doesn't satisfy me.
