I just got the 7805 refurb and the first thing I did was try to run OCCT on it.
After running for like 4min. OCCT stops and says there is an error on core #1, but temps never went above 52C (tried running OCCT several times and got the same result). So a bit frustrated I switched to running Furmark and the temps got real high in only a few min (like 80-90C) and then I got a BSOD. I then realized the power profile was on "balance" so I switched it to "high performance" and ran Furmark again for like 10min. (will run longer later) and the GPU temps stayed around 60-62C. I tried running Prime95 and it also got an error after only like 5min. of running. Could one of my cores really be corrupted or is there anything I can try to test this out?

Just got another BSOD while downloading things via Steam.
edit: I think this BSOD was a fluke. I think the best way for me to text anything it to run a game like L4D on MAX and see if I BSOD then. -

If you're having this many problems directly after recieving the laptop you need to contact whoever you purchased it from.
If you updated drivers/changed hardware/software and that is the cause of the BSOD (I have no clue since you didn't post the BSOD error message), then obviously it needs to be troubleshooted and fixed. -
i didnt change anything. The BSOD pretty much happened without any changes made to the laptop

Just called tech support for the company that refurbishes the systems and he said to perform a system factory reset and then call back if the problem persists. So thats what I am doing now.
I have a feeling im going to have to RMA my new baby
EDIT: Just got a BSOD in the middle of the Factory reset
EDIT2: Called tech support again they said it sounds like a hardware problem. They also told me to call tigerdirect to get an exchange because if I did the RMA through them I would need to pay for shipping and I would need to wait a while until i received another laptop, where as tigerdirect would ship one out to me right away without charging. Problem is, I am not the one that purchased the laptop from tigerdirect, but the guy I got the laptop from eBay is the one that did it. He is the only one that can authorize the laptop to get shipped to my address because he is the credit card holder. I just messaged him now, if he doesn't respond I am going to call tigerdirect again and just ask them if they can use my credit card in place of his.
EDIT3: So basically I was lied to a bunch of times by the people at Tigerdirect and finally someone told me I actually had 3 options (as opposed to the just the one involving contacting the ebay seller). My second option was to have them charge my card and then have them ship me the new laptop and then they would refund the money back as soon as they receive the defunct laptop. Problem with that option is that when the money gets refunded back it gets refunded back to the ebay sellers credit card and not mine (i know... is up with that)...so even though they charge my card they refund his card. The third option (the one I am going with) is having them email me a shipping label so that I can just ship the defunct laptop back to them and then they will ship the new laptop to my mailing address (not the ebay seller). I am surprised they didnt tell me the third option the first two times I called. Also, when I asked if they still even had the laptop in stock I had 2 people tell me that it was in stock (but they are doing an inventory count so it doesn't show up) and I had 2 people tell me that it won't be in stock until June 23rd. -
? talk about the run around.. I hate that. Good luck!

Not sure if you are willing but it could be a bad TIM on the cpu. if it were getting air bubbles it could crreate hot spots and this could cause the CPU error. it could be easily replaced without showing up to the manufacturer.

Oh and it turns out I was lied to by basically everyone at tigerdirect.
I finally got a hold of the ebay seller and he contacted tigerdirect who told him that I should just ship it since I already have the return shipping label. This contradicts what they told me before because before they said that he could still call up and expedite shipping on the new laptop and I could just hold off on sending the laptop in until I received the new one. So I called up Tigerdirect direct and this representative told me that the ebay seller can't tell them to ship the laptop to my address even though he is the card holder. He even went as far as to tell me that there was no way I could get the new laptop shipped to me via getting "expedited" (where as like 3 different representatives told me differently). He told me my best option is to just ship them the defunct laptop and that once the laptop shows up on UPS tracking I can call them back and ask for a manager to see if he would be willing to start shipment of the replacement to me (but it's totally up to the manager and not guaranteed). So basically I am going to call and probably be told they need to wait to receive the laptop until they ship me the new one...and this is my horror story with ebay and tigerdirect. -
Ok...
Just do a paypal dispute...
and then buy another after you get your money back,. Don't deal with all this crap xD -

Just another quick update (for those interested in this ordeal of mine).
Just got off the phone with another representative who told me that the LAST representative I talked to had lied to me COMPLETELY. She said there is no way anyone can authorize shipping out the replacement once the broken one is already in transit back to the facility because it would produce 2 RMA numbers. She also said that the ebay seller can authorize expedited shipping to my address and that it probably would have been the quickest way. FML. -

Damn that sucks, thats why i would never buy anything REFURBISHED off ebay, i was looking at some dell studios xps 16s but i wasnt too sure how dell would deal with them since they were ebay items.
I too RMA my first 7805u because my graphics card was heating up to 96c and i was worried about long term reliability and they sent me my return laptop which might have had the 1920x1200 screen, but i refused shipment.
What happened the following monday? Im now typing on a problem free Macbook pro... -

What has happened since the last post has been a whole lot more getting lied to.
Since seeing the 7805u's going back on sale on tigerdirect I got worried because I thought, "hey what if they sell out again before even sending out my replacement". So I called them back and talked to a guy who said, "don't worry we have PLENTY in stock and we won't sell out before sending yours out". I also told him that another rep had told me that they might not even ship out my replacement until 2-3 days after receiving it and he said, "it's an equal exchange, we will send out your replacement as soon as its received aka on the same day".
So that guy made me feel good about everything, but in reality he just lied to me just as much as everyone else. So the laptop was delivered yesterday and around 3-4PM I call up tigerdirect to check the status of my exchange and a girl answers and says, "we have to wait for the warehouse to process it before we can send you your exchange which can take up to 48 hours". So I am super pissed as tell her that I am and ask her if there is anything she can do for me to help me out and she tells me there isn't anything she can do until the return is officially processed by the warehouse.
So fast forward to 9:30PM last night. I call tigerdirect and talk to another representative (probably the most helpful one of all). He tells me that even though the product is showing up as unavailable online that they still have 4 in stock and that there is a CHANCE that I will get one of those four. He said he isn't going to lie to me and tell me that I will get one of them because he can't guarantee it. He even went ahead and even sent an order to the warehouse to expedite my exchange, but informed me that even this order he is sending can take 24-48 hours to process (I know, what kind of BS is that). So I tell him, "are you telling me that the girl I talked to earlier today who told me that there is nothing she can do for me basically flat out lied to me?" and he said she did. He said that if I don't get one of the four that they have in stock now, I will have to wait for them to ship me one when they get them back in stock around the 23-26 of this month and even then he said it's up to if the manufacturer is on time with shipping them the product. He even told me that a manager could have expedited the exchange while my package was in transit, but it's something they rarely do.
So pretty much here I am broken over the whole experience. I am still debating on if I should just except the fact that I probably won't get it until the 23-26 this month or if I should call up and ask to talk to a supervisor/manager. -
Out of 3 computer/laptops I have got from eBay, only 1 worked properly. Out of 3 cell phones purchases from eBay 1 was defective.
Really though, the problem here wasn't that the eBay seller sold me a defective product, it's that tigerdirect sold him the defective product that he unknowingly sold me. The package was obviously in the same box tigerdirect sent him, he just slapped the shipping label to me on it. -
the eBay seller should have tested the notebook before offering it for sale.
Just my opinion, but "refurbs" are a unique animal. Sometimes, the refurb was simply re-seating a memory chip or similar, while other times it should have been some serious diagnostic effort to determine what the reported problem is. Simply restoring the system to a "factory fresh" OS, without doing further testing may not resolve an issue regarding over-heating, for example.
If one is going to re-sell refurbs, they should be testing them first and not simply passing on the unresolved problem(s).
Just my two cents. -

OK FINALLLY PROGRESS!
Just called Tigerdirect again, apparently the representative I talked to last night about having him expedite the exchange process was telling the truth. However, his order that he put in to expedite the exchange process was denied (which sounds like it sucks). So basically before flipping out at the current representative I tell her that I am just really pissed about getting lied to by almost every representative i've talked to and that before I go off at her I want to talk to her supervisor. So I get put on hold for like 5min. and then she gets back to me and says that she told her manager what I told her about getting lied to by a lot of different representatives and that he understood...so he authorized a "force return", which basically means that my exchange has now been moved from "pending" to "expedited". She said that now instead of waiting for the warehouse to process the order that the order will ship out immediately.
So my advice to anyone going through my process...skip all of the crap in between and just tell them your pissed and want to talk to a supervisor who apparently can actually get things done. -
Reading all of this reminds me why I stopped doing business with Tiger Direct. I've had similar problems with their support, RMA and rebates.
Newegg (although I ALWAYS get bad products) seems to know what is going on and can do a good job of getting me a working product. Sending out the replacement before they receive the RMA'd item works pretty well.
Im sure having the ebay seller adds an extra degree of hard to the whole deal.
Just got my 7805 refurb...should i be worried?
