I just got it yesterday at BB. I went in expecting to pay 1400 and something, but when I looked at the receipt, they had put it on sale. I walked out with it coming to a little under 1010 dollars.

I've installed 3dmark 06, and after updating to what I think are the correct drivers, I got a 7000 something score. I tried using ntune to overclock my GPU, but apparently setting both overclock settings to max lowers my FPSs and my score.

I'm not quite sure what to do, because this is my first foray into overclocking.
I'm also looking for any suggestions as to what, if anything, else I should do to improve performance.

    Thanks.

    wow...great deal on the 7811.

as far as overclocking goes, just take it slow and from the default clocks (600mhz core, 800mhz memory, 1500mhz shader) bump it up 25mhz at a time and benchmark using 3dmark06 or 3dmark vantage. once you get to the point of either the display driver crashing or your 3dmark score lowers, back the overclock down a few mhz and try it again. if it doesnt crash then your overclock is stable (as long as you are comfortable with the temperatures of the GPU)

you could also overclock each of them individually to find your highest point for each slider.

Yeah, that was ridiculously cheap for such an awesome computer.

I don't see my computer crashing anytime soon since I have brought it up to 1200 mhz on both core and memory at the same time. I ran it through 06 at that setting, and it worked just fine, but I got nasty scores.

Where do I modify the shader? I haven't seen that option...

Is there an average setting for other people where they get the best scores?
I'm not really looking forward to running 06 every 25mhz from stock on up.

are you sure that you are on "performance" power profile?

in the Nvidia control panel, if you downloaded the Nvidia system tools with ESA Support and installed the Performance software, you should be able to restart the computer, and then once back into windows, go into the Nvidia control panel again and look for a "Performance" tab, agree to the EULA, and then you will see your default clocks of 600/799/1500. the slider for the shaders should be in there.

also, since you ran 3dmark 06 fine with the core and mem clock at 1200 but got lower scores, drop those clocks back down to 700 for core, 900 for memory and give it another shot.

and you dont have to test it every 25mhz on the overclock, thats just the way i do it to be safe.

No, I just googled ntune, went to the Nvidia link site, and downloaded it.
As I said before, I know next to nothing about overclocking.

    What is this "Performance profile/software"?
Is there a version without ESA support that I could have downloaded?
    I'll have to check that.

Thanks for answering all my stupid questions.

That's the one I went to.
I hope you get the difference.

In nTune, I have the Performance tab, but it only shows my my GPU Core Bus Speed and my Memory Bus speed. The option to control the fans is below that, but it is grayed out.

unfortunately, we can't control the fan speed of our gpu's as it is hard coded into the bios.
