I'll install it after the gym.

but can anyone tell me how to apply the AS5 compound?

remember, you shouldn't leave the laptop on continuously for long according to the AS5 website. It says something about turning it off once in a while until the 200 hour break in period is over.

what are normal temps. for the GPU. this is the 6831 FX.

is around 60- 64*c normal? it's with no cooler.

idle? those temps are high idle temps. Gaming? those are low gaming temps.

actually, it's gone up to 70*c on gaming.

    normal?

60-64 idle is not normal. 70 in gaming is not too bad but a little on the high side. My temps after installing the X7800 are 39-42 for both cores and low 40s for GPU. Forgot to add that I did not overclock my gpu or cpu. Did you overclock cpu or gpu? That could be a contributing factor for the high temps.

As for the break-in period, the manufacturer says:

"Due to the unique shape and sizes of the particles in Arctic Silver 5
conductive matrix, it will take a up to 200 hours and several thermal cycles to
achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink
to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity. (This period will be longer in
a system without a fan on the heatsink or with a low speed fan on the
heatsink.) On systems measuring actual internal core temperatures via the
CPU's internal diode, the measured temperature will often drop 2C to 5C over
this "break-in" period. This break-in will occur during the normal use of the
computer as long as the computer is turned off from time to time and the
interface is allowed to cool to room temperature. Once the break-in is
complete, the computer can be left on if desired. "

I've read that some people don't notice any temperature decreases after break-in while others report somewhere around 2-10 degrees down. Just make sure you don't leave your computer on for 24/7. Allow it to complete thermal cycles (allow to room temps) when you don't use your comp.

i'm using my cooler now, and the core temps. are

    1- 28*c
    2- 29*c

    GPU is at 42*c

I did not over clock, but i want to under volt.

can anyone one tell me how to under volt? lulz

those are great temps. CPUs are running cooler than mines but I don't own a cooler. You have lots of room to overclock the cpu to even 3 ghz. Personally i havent done it yet since I'm waiting for that break in period if it even exists. I'll probably start OCing on the weekend once I start to game.

Good to see you temp situation is undercontrol. So, how are you liking the performance? To undervolt use RMclock and make sure to use orthos to test stability. All you have to do is set performance on demand at startup and set the multipliers down a little. Then you test stability with orthos each time until you find the lowest undervolt with good stability. Personally I left mines on default after getting the X7800 because the new CPU needs extra power. Plus my temps are good anyway and I don't want to risk any blue screens down the line.

    amazing.

I played some l4d, and wow, even the graphics got better. hah

what i worried are the temperatures without the cooler master infinite pro. I be sure to put enough AS5 on the GPU and CPU chips. The stock GPU thermal came off when i took off the heat sink, so i just put new thermal on.

I noticed you said "enough". I hope you didn't put much on there :D
I've read that its important especially on GPU to put small amounts. Basically less is more.

For me graphics look the same but everything ran smoother. I ran everything on high on my games anyway so graphics wasn't an issue. The extra frames are fantastic though. I 3dmarked my machine this morning and got over 9100 so I'm definitely happy. I think I should be able to get to the upper 9000s with a good overclock.

Same as you but I changed my driver to dox optimized and did a clean install. I was getting 8700 in 3dmark and lower before I did the clean install and changed my driver. This is at the default low res on the free version of 3dmark. Not sure what res you were using.

Where do i get the dox drivers from? i have to give them a try now. I did a clean install a few months ago but it doesn't take long to get slower.

    Thanks

First... WHY???? (would u even type that lol!)

Second. now we know the problem. You accidently removed the thermal pad from your GPU. It's really not good to run ESPECIALLY not good to stress your gpu without the proper thermal pad in there. There is more of a gap with ur GPU and thermal paste (as5 or whatever) just won't do it. You need the proper size thermal PAD.

yea, tht can be a big problem, you should have taken off the pad, if you replace it ti should be fine, needs to be the same thickness though.

are you sure the AS5 won't work on the GPU?

i only get up to 75*c when i play l4d for 2 hours....with the cooler that is.

It'd only function properly if the gpu is making contact with the heatsink, otherwise the thing is going to fry.

OP: Just so you know, overclocking this cpu to 3ghz is a bad idea unless you have a cooler under it.

hmm that's no biggie then for GPU temp... i don't know how long you wanna risk it though without the proper thermal pad...
