I just got my new 6860FX from Best Buy (couldn't resist the $100 off + free game-Age of Conan Preorder). Question is now what should I do first in terms of upgrades/optimization? I've already ordered a T9300 from NewEgg which should be here next week. In terms of video drivers, are the 174.74 from laptopvideo2go still considered the best? Should I just download all other drivers from the Gateway website? And is a clean install of Vista really necessary or will removing the bloatware programs from add/remove be sufficient? Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help!

I would just get rid of the boatware by add/remove programs, and save your self some time, as you can see, I have had plenty of experence, It makes zero bit of diffrence, just make sure you remove norton and mcafee, aohell. Next think about a second Hard Drive. If you decide to go raid go raid 0 strip size 32 or 64,(You will need to do a fresh install). I like the 174.74, and have had zero problems. After that look for a backpack, I bought two Slappa's one was the older version, both are ver nice, and can fit planty of things after the laptop too, may two. And last but not lest, buy a cool game like Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Ever Quest 2 <--- had to plug :)

Congrats, I just bought mine today, too. It will serve as either an upgrade or an addition to my IFL-90. Anywho, first thing I did was crack open the hard drive bay and confirm that there is room for one more drive in there. I plan on ordering an extra 320GB drive from Newegg on Monday. If you've got tons of video and tunes, this is what I'd pitch as your first upgrade, although you'll take a battery hit.

You should go the this post and apply all of those tweaks.

then go to the free software thread right below the one above and make sure all your needs are met.

third you should install a few games and play play play.
