I posted here for us P68XX owners.

I removed yesterday after crashing two programs after Windows Update installed this.

Anyone else have or have not any BSOD since this update?

    THX

i installed on the 6/7 so far no problems.

having said that i do suspect that this update change the default setting of the Data Execution Prevention from essential window programs to all programs.

can anyone have a look ?

computer / properties / advanced system settings / performance - settings / DEP tab

Well, I had another BSOD in explorer. So might have other problem. I used System Restore to go back one step at a time.

Royk50, DEP is on for essential Windows programs only, FWIW, never adjusted that setting.

    cheers

    Hey John,

Windows says it may be memory or CPU not matching BIOS

    Suggests BIOS upgrade...

I'll let things bake with removing the latestest Silicon Image's Pseudo Processor Device which was installed last.

    thx

How do you guys like the Vista Memory Diagnostics Tool under the advanced settings? I'm going to run this tonight FWIW..

John, no I did not think to run a check for data corruption, that did not feel right at the time; but will add it to the list if this thing continues to be a bad boy.

    thx

yeah hydra, that is usually one of the first things to do. sometimes it's that simple. and i have made quite a few mistakes in the past, by going the other routes first.

OK, so far all is fine with just backing down the Silicon Image's Pseudo Processor Device. If this thing acts up again I'll try other suggestions.

    Thanks to all that replied.

Never had a problem until the latest Silicon Image's update..

I'll be far more careful on future updates.

Is that an Important, Recommended or Optional update?
(Im not behind my laptop at the moment).

I usually only install important ones.
IIRC there is an optional Microsoft driver via Windows update for the Silicon chipset. But I used Gateway's and its all fine, so I am not going to fix it, bcoz its not broken :)

tagged "optional" most definitely not recommended
and it is important you stay clear of it.

    nuff said.
