My friend's gateway is not responding, she has a MT3707.
Fan comes on as well as the power and battery LEDs, but the screen remains black. We have plugged an external monitor up to the laptop, but there is no image on the external. I have concluded that the motherboard is the culprit.
Should I eliminate the screen as the culprit, and swap the motherboard??
I guess the real question is, does one have to login to windows in order for the laptop to recognize the external screen feature, because this would explain why the external screen is not working.

    1. Have you tried booting in "Safe Mode"?

    2. Most laptops have a hotkey specifically assigned to swap between the main display and an external one, if the laptop does in fact have one, did you press it when you hooked up the external monitor?
