    I love the new netbook but the ram setup is SLOW. Mine came with DDR2 400(800 DDR) MHz ram but at CAS5. Since the AMD L110 at 1.2 GHz uses CPU/5 this puts the memory at 239 MHz but still at CAS5.

    Since the CPU and GPU share the memory this tends to make things a bit worse. I've noticed a substantial difference just going to FSB 221.6 placing the memory at 266 MHz.

    So I've decided to upgrade to a 2 Gig CAS3 266 MHz memory stick. While increasing the FSB above the 221.6 will force CPU/6 I think this is the best compromise.

    It is on order now and I'll update once in. I don't expect major CPU gains etc just for it to be a bit snappier and more responsive.

    What's the speed of the hard drive and what kinds of tasks are you doing on the computer that are not as snappy as you'd like?

    The HD is a 5400 RPM, more than ample. AMD handles memory speed different than Intel. It is a division of the CPU core speed, and I am just looking for the system to be a bit snappier. I am not looking for anything major but on line video should be a bit better too.............

    Dude, I am glad that you are madly love the new netbook. Yes please you post us after you get 2GB ram from negg..

    Good luck!

    unfortunately your going to be disappointed! no matter what ram you try, the speed will stay the same and the cas and timing settings! the bios like forces it to use the same speed no matter what type of ddr2 sodimm is inside! I tried it myself! The funny thing some users got the gateway netbook and showed screenshots from cpuz of the ram actually running at the correct timings and speeds! ddr2-667 (333mhz) and cas timings of 5-5-5-18

    The laptop is screwy! It does out run at atom netbook though gpu and cpu wise about 10%.

    Thats all going to change with the aspire 1410T (1810T-1810TZ) this netbook is like the gateway in every aspect accept for the new intel SU line of processors single core and dual core with 1-3meg of cache, it has of course the ccrappy intel 4500hd gpu but it does have ddr2-800 speed dual channel ram slots and the SU3500 solo cpu gets a 36-38sec 1M super pi runtime which is pretty dam good. Also the cpu at full load stays pretty much at the same temps as idle around 40-45c never gets hot. I had a gateway netbook but returned it due to the darn slow ram issues!

    The nice thing about the amd chipset inside is the nice fast SATA-II hard drive transfer speeds and burst speeds! Intel cant touch that with a stick!

    I've used AMD's K8's and earlier for quite some time. The Memory speed is a function of the CPU/5 so a 1.2 proccessor gives the memory at 240 MHz. The Memory will run at the highest CAS. As the AMD cpu speeds up and gets the memory to its SPD rated speed it swithches to the next divisor, CPU/6, so at 1.4 GHz instead of running 266 memory at 280 it goes to 233 MHz.

    So at stock it will still run at 240 MHz but the new stick will run CAS3 instead of CAS5. I would also like Command rate at 1T instead of 2T but I am not too hopefull there. I should still be able to OC the FSB to 222 and keep the memory at 266 MHz too.

    My main thought is since the CPU and Video card share the memory at whatever speed it is running at the lower latency memory should be a real boon. Agreed it still will not be the speed of DDR2-800 dual channel but I'll take whatever extra I can get.............

    it is funny though, I was just on YouTube with the LT watching video of the 1810T review and it played without dropped frames. Stock ram too. I am Verry happy so far, just want a little more snap, not alot, just a little more. and for under 30 bucks the ram hopefully will get me some or all of that.... :)

    I'll have to run some test but first impression is this is the ram it should have came with. I get CAS 3 Command rate 1T and easily overclocks to 287 MHz too.............. :)

    Edit;
    Another quick update, I am running the core at 1.4 GHz and ram at 280 MHz. This seems to be a reasonable and safe overclock for this machine. I can tell you everythig seems faster and smoother. This is no miracle cure but makes it so much more enjoyable, maybe time for a 7200 RPM drive or maybe SSD?

    The ram helps it boot faster too, with window7 the screen would dull at one point 5-6 seconds, it now only dulls for a second or less at that same point. I atribute this to not only the CPU having access to lower latency but the video card too.

    Ribbons screen saver is now on steroids too. Pipes even runs better, yes I installed Pipes screen saver on Win 7.............

    2nd Edit;

    Boot time went from power button to desktop from 70 seconds to 55 seconds.........

    3rd Edit;

    Even at overclock I am ideling 5C cooler. I was ideling at 48C I now see 43-44C........

    This will never be a high end laptop replacement and I didn't get it for that. The ram is the one area I can see they seriously messed up here. While this will never be a true multitasker especially in a shared memory design low latecy and/or high frequency ram is a must.

    I love to tweak and this is a nice little device just begging for that. With the OC I run at 1.4 GHz and that is more than ample for what I need it to do and now with the better ram the desktop is as reponsive as any other laptop I've used.

    I should note the CPU/5 divisor and over clocking the does not change with the cpu speed increase. trying to run 1.5 GHz works with the other ram with the ram at 300 MHz. This ram will not overclock that high. I got to 290 without issue but 300 just locks up.

    I am happy with this though as I only expected 1.33 GHz and 266 MHz but I'm 100% stable at 1.40 GHz and 280 MHz and I got command rate 1T when I wasn't expecting that either. Even at stock speeds the system is much better than before with the old ram.

    Even if you run at stock, maybe even especially then, this is a low cost simple upgrade that is well worth it.

    the problem is not the memory.

    is the OS.

    change It to linux, i sugest you try the mandrive spring 2009 free 64 bits.

    Ah, now we know your distro, thanks. Again if you change the memory even Linux would get a boost, like it needs one! Hardware wise thememory is still another boost too.....
