Hey all,
Bought my 7811 FX at Best Buy (Montgomery, AL) on Tuesday for $1,400. They price matched the Gateway website that had the MSRP of $1,400 - the normal price at Best Buy is $1,450.
Anyway, heard about the Labor Day sale at this forum and checked the Best Buy website. Sure enough - there it was. Gateway 7811 FX for $1,250 AND a free game!
So I took my receipt to Best Buy this afternoon. They gave me the difference of $165 ($150 + tax, remember I paid $1,400 for my laptop) and let me walk out the door with Mass Effect ($54.99 with tax)!
I don't know what is going on with the Best Buys that y'all are doing your business at but this one honored the deal on the website.. including the tax on the game - it was truly free.

felt you really need to make a new post? Instead of you know, putting into that labor day thread already?
-
He's got three posts. Maybe cut him some slack?
To usafwilson, congrats on getting the discount. -
Less than a minute at the Customer Service counter and $210 was headed back to my CC account - but I forgot to ask for the game... DOH!!
-
good news......
-
they usually do pricematch, if not their policy is right on the wall.
but i find mass effect very boring, started playing earlier and hated talking to everyone and having to chose what you said. -
-
that is a sweet deal, i wonder how best buy can dish out these things so cheaply
-
Majority of people will buy an extended service plan from them. -
EDIT: Sorry, saw azianai's post above and that's correct. Gateway is the one who makes these so cheap and tells BB what they can sell it for. BB may not make anything on the system, per se, but they will make money on the service plans. -
I also got $200 back and a free game - COD4. Hard to believe how much cheaper this laptop is compared to other brands. I'm a happy camper. BTW, this was at the store in Washington, Utah.

Also, I figure that if I can keep this laptop running for at least 2 years, the depreciated value would probably drop to under $500 at which time it would be time to upgrade. If you plan to keep it for awhile then the $350 may be worth the peace of mind. Here was my old upgrade path:
Dell Inspiron 8600 w/ ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo May 2004 (vid card fried - 1 yr warranty)
GFX card now Nvidia FX5200
Dell Inspiron E1705 Sep 2006 w/ Geforce go 7900gs (vid card fried - 1 yr warranty)
GFX card now Ati X1400
Gateway P-7811FX Aug 2008 (hopefully no problems until 2010) -
yep, the 3 yr is also a scam as it coincides with the original 1 yr, and additional 1 yr if you used AMEX, MasterCard, or Visa that offer double warranty coverage up to a year on purchases. So your 3 years really is 1 additional year.
-
Of course, it has a weaker ATI GPU but if video cards are easy to swap in Laptops I would go for that one. -
um sorry vision33r, nothing about that Dell studio 17 is similar to the 7811FX. You either get the weaker P8100, or the stronger P9300 sure, but you're looking at DDR2 ram, not DDR3 (not that it REALLY makes a difference, but in terms of value/price it does), a weaker GPU which fine a wash, but to make everything else similar, would cost bout 100 more than the FX, and the HDs options are all only 5400RPM (which honestly in notebooks isn't that significant).
And Dell's VERY TOUCHY about swapping components of their notebook, your 2 yr warranty is basically moot.
I dunno why you'd bring this up in a Gateway thread for this notebook tbh. -
I also got the price match refund but it took a little work to get the free pc game. Basically what they had to do was process a full refund. This took more time than normal especially getting them to honor my original purchase terms financing deal (2 years 0%). They had to fill out some stupid form requiring a manager signature. In the end I guess it was well worth it.

I paid 1250, 1300 something with tax, but they didn't say anything about free game.
-
Youdontneedtoknow, when did you get your 7811? If it was sometime this week, you should go back and get your free game (value up to 49.99). Go to best buy and click on weekly ad. Put in your zip and you'll see the circular for this week. Flip through the pages and look for the 7811 and you'll see the promotion.

Its alright. I don't need to play games. There is no game that interest me at the moment.
-
wow... that's the first time i saw a person decline a free product!
-
I picked this laptop as well and got Rainbow Six Vegas 2
So much for saving the money I made off of selling one of my desktops -
-
It's not an LED Screen... I had one on order and cancelled.. the LED screen is a typo on their site -
Just verifying....this was for like the first week in Sept.? I just bought mine on the 17, I think, so I am out of luck, right? Paid 1449
-
7811 Is On Sale Again! 1249. Back Ordered, But You Should Be Able To Get A Rain Check!
-
yes there is overlap but thats because best buy covers more than any manufacturers plan. they cover manufacturers defects. period thats it. same coverage for your credit card warranty. -
-
Also Best Buy told me they replace batteries under their warranty too. So if your battery runs out in a year or two and you're covered, there's a hundred bucks you saved on the replacement. So a big chunk of your warranty costs are virtually guaranteed paid for anyway just by getting a free battery when yours wears out.
