Son went off to college and wireless and wired lan worked first day and not since. So he took it to their IT dept ( which are kids)

They are telling him his wireless and lan are bad...cmon! He says he gets a green light when he plugs in cable so I know it is getting power... It asks for a login to the network there and then immediatly says it cannot connect to either one wireless or wired.

My question is, are these built on the motherboard or are they seperate components?

I have told him to de-install the drivers then re-install using the latest drivers on the Gateway site and put them on a flash drive

Anybody know of issues with this model ? I still bet it is not hardware but something with the school network or their new firewall.

Update: Uploading new Intel drivers for the lan card and wireless card did the trick. Solution: Never trust IT departments at colleges, as most are staffed by students and have minimal knowledge of networking!
