I need some help here, I just bought a bag off of ebags.com that said it would fit and when I got it, not even close! Anyways, I don't want to mess around anymore, I just want something that fits and works really well. I am going to be heading to college soon and I need something that will provide good protection (from setting down the bag and such), water resistence (in case it rains), and fits well (would be a huge plus if I didnt have to take the battery off). I would like to not spend a lot but I would still like any and all suggestions. Thanks.

P.S. It would be a plus to be a backpack so I could have my hands free...

Not sure what kind of bag you are looking for, but here is the link to a thread on backpack suggestions for the P-6831FX:

Gateway P6831 FX Backpack suggestion needed

The 6831 and 172S are identical in size. I have the P-6860FX, and I bought the Targus Flare 17" Laptop Backpack. It has plenty of room for the laptop with the battery attached as well as room for much, much more. It also has a rain hood that is stored out of sight in a pocket at the bottom of the bag. You can find it online for around $50 - $60. I got mine on ebay for just over $40 shipped.

Here is a link to the Flare on the Targus website:

Edit: You must have posted your desire for a backpack while I was working on my post.
