I basically have an old red gateway M-7347u, and one of the internal fans is completely out and I want to get a new one. I got it from a friends years and years ago, so I don't have the proof of purchase to send to gateway. I wonder what the proper procedure would be in order to fix other then "Buy a new one". It's a good computer and I want to try to fix it as much as possible.

You can find replacement parts on Ebay....you need to match those part number to find the right part on ebay.

Proof of purchase should only be needed for a warranty repair and I am sure this is well past that. With the age of it Gateway may not even be willing to do a paid repair either. Your options may then be to repair it yourself or find a local electronics/computer repair shop to do it.
