    Hey guys,
I'm been looking at the 6860-fx which I'm almost sure I'm going to purchase, but before I do, I was just wondering how Gateway's reliability is. I heard many stories that they break down quickly and have a bunch of problems sooner than they should. Without any bias, I would like to know your opinion or experiences of the brand. Anything specific relating to the FX line would be most helpful.
Since I'm not sure how durable they are I'm not sure what warranty I should buy (one year, two years?) so I'd appreciate your insight. Thanks ;)

Edit: also, those of you who own the FX (whichever model), how satisfied are you with them? thanks again

well the FX line is fairly new so I don't know if anyone can tell you how reliable they are yet, since they haven't even been out that long, but personally I've become very satisfied with my purchase. Of course, there was one time that it shut down unexpectedly but that was most likely due to a particular video driver which made the GPU really hot. Then, there was another time it froze, but that's one time in around four months which isn't that big of a deal if you ask me. The cooling is pretty good, and I think the highest I've gone is 90C but that was after an intense gaming session and also with a driver that got the GPU relatively hot. Now, it barely goes up to 80C.

From looking at that chart I guess you could say gateway has less than average reliability, but generally there's a small margin between all the brands. I don't think a difference of 3% percent is a big deal...that's interesting, thanks for putting that up there.

I don't own a 6860,but had the opportunity to look at one of them.I think they will last long if not abused at least form their external strength.

I think in the end it depends mostly on the user than the laptop. And after Acer bought Gateway things seem to be better.

According to that graph, Apple laptops need the most repairs, yet so many people swear by it. So you'll be fine. =p
