Lately I started playing world of warcraft again, I figured my P-7811fx could handle it without a problem, but that's where I was wrong. I keep all my data on a 2nd partition so I have nothing to lose by formatting over and over. Basically what is happening is I go into warcraft, and anywhere from 5 minutes to hours it will simply lock up, can't move the mouse or ctrl+alt+delete. If I am doing something with any sound in background it goes into loop back.

I already formatted once, assumingly figuring it has been over 6 months and for a game to freeze like that something is wrong obviously. I do the reinstall, 64bit with updating forceware drivers for the videocard, direct10 and whatever drivers were needed off the gateway disc. I then install warcraft and try playing it, freezes up again.

So now it freezes with a fresh format and re-install. Next thing I tried was unplugging all USB items from the laptop that wern't needed, random forums showed a Logitech mouse could be the blame, so I simply unplugged my mouse, within 15 minutes it freezes, only my Cooler was plugged in at this point, so I rule out the mouse being a problem.

My only logical next step would assume it has something to do with drivers, or hardware. Its possible Win64 could be to blame, however I haven't completely tested everything on 64bit to format and install 32bit just yet. I will update until I completely solve this issue and tired enough of it to spend a week formatting until its fixed.

There's a probability it's the mother board. Try calling gatweway and seeking further assistance.

Check temps, let a program record temps while you play WOW.

Have you tried a different video driver? Different video settings? What resolution are you using? Do the Forceware drivers offer a choice of Quality/Balanced/Performance? If so what are you choosing? Also in the Nvidia Control Panel do you have it set for Quality/Balanced/Performance or "Let the 3D application decide"?

I know for a fact WOW works on Vista 64, I setup a Toshiba Satellite for a friend that plays WOW very frequently and his works fine on Vista 64.

this same exact thing is happening (well on all games not just wow) on my laptopt, gateway m 6862. In the games I'm playing there's no way to monitor heat while I'm playing the game, which I think sometimes is not the problem (sometimes I know it is, like if I've been playing a game for 2 hrs and the laptop is plenty hot, but it CAN't be the problem if I'm playing for 30 seconds...).

EDIT: what is even viewer? ty ahead of time

well youve had the laptop for 6 months (if i understood correctly) so is it possible that its just dirty with maniacal dust bunnies? check the vents and make sure they are not clogged and unclog them with a compressed air if they are.

Alt+Tab to Hwmonitor after some intense gaming and look at temps..

I have a P6860fx and play WoW quite a bit. I haven't had issues and since the 7811 is a superior model, it should have no problems playing. I did have issues with poor performance and occasional freezing when I was trying different video drivers (ie DOX etc). I have been using NVidia's notebook drivers from their website for months now with no issues.

See the sticky in the gateway section for "The Definitive nVidia Driver Upgrade Guide" for the proper way to change drivers.

I just changed to the DOX 182.46 driver last night and seemed to notice an immediate improvement in the smoothness of the gameplay. Ive been using the DOX 185.20 drivers since I first got this laptop back in January, and occasionally I would get a stuttering/clipping while in-game (Sound would loop), although mine always resumed eventually. I will be gaming as much as I can this weekend to see if this new DOX driver got rid of that problem, as it seemed to last night.
