    Laptop not booting off hdd or dvd drive.

    So I bought this gateway laptop ( w340ui ) for $30. the bios does not recognize the hard driver or the dvd drive. It will boot of of a usb and I tried a bios update, as well as took it apart to see if anything was loose.

    I'm not sure what to try/do next. Any suggestions?

    My research has made me believe that the ide controller is bad?
