I actually have two questions as I have two Gateway Laptops each with its own problem. They are both different models and were purchased new last July.
Last night my daughter was using laptop #1 while working on her homework assignment. She had multiple windows open and the computer froze up on her. She put the computer into hibernate mode and now it won't reboot. I tried disconnecting the AC cord as well as remove the battery and replacing them and still it won't reboot.
My other daughter uses laptop #2 and it won't run on AC power. I replaced the AC power cord and it still only runs on battery power. She only has the battery that came with the computer which has nearly run out of battery power at this point. I ended up purchasing a third AC cord thinking that perhaps the replacement that Gateway sent me was defective, but still no luck with the computer running on AC power.
I'd really appreciate whatever help anyone can provide. My daughters use these computers constantly for their schooling and I just can't afford to buy them another computer.

Laptop #1 have you tried to hold the power button down? if it still won't power on/procced to the windows splash call gateway, that sounds like a BIOS or motherboard issue.
Laptop #2 motherboard is fried; i have the exact same problem with my Toshiba computer, they said that the motherboard is dead, and need to be replaced. -
Thank you for your help. I'm really computer illiterate. Where do I purchase a new motherboard for the laptops, and how do I replace them? I don't even know where to begin to look for them on the computers. Could you also tell me about how much a new motherboard will cost? Also, when you say proceed to the window's splash, what are you referring to. Nothing at all shows up on my monitor so I'm not getting a splash screen

I don't think you can just buy a new motherboard. Your best bet is to call customer service and see what they say. Do you still have a warranty on any of these units?
Laptop will not power up after hibernating
