Mute it? It sounds more like something is seriously wrong with it. Does it come from the brick itself? Have you tested the cables for loose connections and so on?

GET RID OF IT! The hissing noise means one of the Batterys is ready to blow, and could be devistating thats bad news. Or if its the adapter could be a wire going

lol I have the exact same thing. I think I asked this a while ago and someone said that its kind of common. I really don't mind, I just noticed that the hotter it gets the louder it is. When I threw a blanket over it by accident after a while I could hear it over the fan, but after I let to cool down it stopped.

lol u ppl are crazy, mine did it randomly, its when too much power is being drawn through the unit, the power adapters for these units were not powerful enough so this sometimes happens. Its not a big deal but if it really bothers you you can get a new, more powerful one.

That's exactly what's happening. You can get a new one from Amazon with a 180W draw instead of the 120W Gateway adapter and you won't hear the sizzling. I don't mind it really.

The only reason to get a new one would be if the noise annoyed you.
