Hello,
My P-7811-FX suffers from the black screen crashing issue that can only be fixed using the "Force constant performance level" in Riva Tuner. Unfortunately, Riva Tuner is no longer compatible with the newer Nvidia Drivers. What is the latest Latest Geforce 9800M GTS Driver I can use without losing compatibility with Riva Tuner?

I want to know too
-
Looking for a response on this as well. Don't have the issue, but would like to see the results.
-
296.10 is the latest driver I've been able to get to work with RivaTuner and not have the black screen issue.
-
A question would be, with MSI Afterburner powered btu Riva Tuner could that be used instead of Riva tuner on its own?
-
download either:
nvidia powermizer
or
nVidia Powermizer Manager
they are two separate programs; both do what you're looking for. -
For whatever reason Riva Tuner seems more successful than just powermizer..............

Thanks Atomictk! I will update to 296.10 . Riva Tuner is simply the only program that consistently works on my older P-7811-FX.

Hello,
I just registered to these forums because I wanted to share my experience about the "Rivatuner Fix". I have a Qosmio laptop with a Geforce 9700M GTS. It's affected by the bug.
- The last "Rivatuner Compatible" WHQL nVidia driver is the 301.42.
- But I was not happy with this driver. I recently installed Windows 8 on my Qosmio and the first "good" WHQL driver designed for W8 is the 306.23... not compatible with Rivatuner.
- So I did some research. In fact, I discovered you can do the Rivatuner Fix (setting performance 3D mode) WITHOUT Rivatuner:
The "Rivatuner Fix" is only changing one registry setting. So the steps to change it are:
- Open Run command (Win + R) and type: Regedit
- Click "YES" if you have an UAC prompt.
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{3C604A9D-AAA7-4C54-BE91-9D1FCC15F487}\
- The entry "{3C604A9D-AAA7-4C54-BE91-9D1FCC15F487}" may be different for you because it's the entry of your video card. The letters/numbers may be different but it's all right.
- To find the good entry, first see if there are "0000" or "0001" subfolders. Then, select them and check in the right tab, you should see a lot of entries. You should see one in particular called "DriverDesc" with the name of your graphic card (for me Geforce 9700M GTS), you should also see the date of the drivers, etc.
- Select the "0000" subfolder in the left. Do NOT select "Display", or "Session", "Settings".
- Then, right click in the right panel > select "New" > Create a Binary Value
- Name the new value : OverrideMaxPerf
- Set it to : 03 00 00 00
- Different settings are : 01 00 00 00 => Standard 2D in Rivatuner
02 00 00 00 => Low Power 3D
03 00 00 00 => Performance 3D (the one which fixes black screens/overheating)
- Create the exact same entry again (OverrideMaxPerf = 03 00 00 00) if you have a "0001" subfolder with also a lot of values in the right tab. The entry may be automaticly created once you added the first one.
- And voila, you have done the Rivatuner Fix without Rivatuner.
- Now, if you want to have proof that it works, you can try it with an older driver (any driver up to the 301.42), and see that changing this regedit value also changes the Rivatuner Force Constant Perfomance Level Setting.
- Deleting the registry value will reset to default; no rivatuner fix applied
- I found the good value searching on the internet and getting this topic : Card will NOT go into 2d mode! which explains the OverrideMaxPerf registry setting. Credits to "Stealthe" for finding the good registry value.
I hope I helped you and sorry for my english which is not my native langage. See you all. -
It does not appear MSI controls this value, at least with the 320 drivers.
