I would suggest going with an 80GB and saving the difference for later. X25-M G2 of course...

i got a G.Skill Falcon 128GB SSD in mine; only got good things to say about it (however, firmware upgrading is a bit of a hassle!)

I have a OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD in mine. It's great!!! I get 223 read and 173 write. Firmwares updates on all SSD's are a hassle. OCZ has the best support forum that I've seen. That's why I went with them. I was lucky and found mine on eBay for $250 shipped. BTW if u get Windows 7 you can run trim. Which helps keep the SSD fast.

How hot does it run? Is it hotter or cooler than the wd scorpio black and are they more reliable, cause I just got a smart failure and sadly it seems that my hard disk is about to go...

SSD's are cooler coz there are no moving parts(HDD does) in it. For those who haven't tried it take the normal flash memory as an example. Anyone out there ever felt scared to unplug it after running it for some time ? I bet no.
If it was affordable i'd have gone for it just for the less heat factor coz with laptops heat is one big factor that we all got to look at.

Maverick79 is right. No moving parts=no heat. As for reliability, ssd's have a limit for how many times you can write on them. But unless you use it for a server or something like that, you should be fine. If you get one make sure it has trim. That helps with keeping the SSD fast. Btw never defrag an ssd, that kills it.

can I format and install windows as often as I want? I tend to mess around with my OS quite often, dual boot etc...

And Vic how much faster is the 7805 with the ssd, does it make that much of a difference?

I think I am going to buy a 30 gig ssd and just keep the os on it, while I use the scorpio black for everything else.

Jimmy all I can say is it's blazing fast. Everything takes less than half of the time it takes with an hdd. From now on I will only run an os on an ssd. I would recommend atleast a 60gb ssd, just to be able to install more than just the os. Check eBay. I found my 120gb ocz vertex for 250 with shipping.

Btw yes you can install the os as many times as you would like. They only mess up if you write 10gb worth of stuff per day for like 10 years.

Yes it should. But if the firmware doesn't have trim then just update the firmware. If you get it let me know. I can help you. I've updated the firmware in mine twice with no problems what so ever. Btw do you have windows 7? Trim only works with windows 7. Sorry for not saying that before.

Yea I have 7, I guess I will just use the laptop till the HD dies then upgrade, get the most out of it....I will let everyone know how long it took from the moment I got the SMART message till when the HD actually goes down.
