I have the x305 and ever since installing Dox's 178.24 custom driver version 1.1 it regulates my temps and controls my fan very well, I barely even notice it turns on anymore. Don't know if it'll help but give it a shot awesome performance increase also.

Have you asked it to be quite? Being polite is key! Eye contact will also help in earning the fan's trust and show you are the alpha male!

Try to blowing dust out of the fan vent with compressed air. You can find instructions for that over at cooling central. See if there are any bios updates or video card driver updates as they may be controlling at what temperature your fan turns on. You may want to attempt to cool your system more in order to see if the fan turns off. For tips on how to achieve that visit cooling central

ok heres something interesting...when the core temp is high(50-60s) the fan runs quietly and smoothly...but in the 40's the fan goes crazy...its really wierd cuz it seems it would be the opposite
