So i was playing dust2 in css with everything maxed out including resolution and i wanted to see the fps. So i typed in cl_showfps on the console and i got 32 fps!!! i know this isnt normal...
I cleaned installed 192.05 Dox drivers the right way and i got the battery in High Performance... Anyone know whats going on or is this normal fps?

What is your system specs? that's a little important. Lol.
-
SAME problem......i am getting undesirable FPS....i have the p-7805u...i get around 70-100 fps on every setting in CS:S..even with everything at low setting i never get over 120
-
css is very cpu heavy. i know in servers with 20
+ players my fps can drop into the 20's. css also doesn't support multicores. -

Theres DOX 192.05 drivers now?
Your thread title says some games.. do other games get better framerates?
Did you choose performance when installing the DOX drivers and did you select performance from the nvidia control panel?
Have you tried any other drivers? -
7805-u fx laptop
9800m gts
Well i found out that you can gain a good fps boost by going on start manager and selecting hl2.exe and putting the affinity to one cpu -
I just did a system restore...and tried cs:s before downloading any new drivers...i get the same fps with vsync off and everything else on high performance...is it normal to get lower fps on bigger servers? in servers with over 12 people i get anywhere from 60-110 fps...servers around 10 or less i get around 90-120..and in empty servers i get what i should be getting! and thats 150-250 fps...
I've only checked the fps for steam games like Left4dead, CS:S, and Teamfortress2....left4dead i get an avg of 20-30 fps and teamfortress i get around 35...is this normal? Recommend any drivers for gaming? -

No problems here playing HL2DM and CS 1.6
I play in 1024x768(on external monitor, 1280x800 if using laptop monitor), most settings are at high, but I haven't really increased anything. HL2DM gets a nice high framerate, goes over 300 often, rarely ever see anything under 100. CS I have maxed at 101.
No overclocks, Dox Optimised 185.20: Performance drivers, nvidia control panel set to performance. Theyve worked great for me since day one and I dont plan on ever changing them.
Ill be playing Left4Dead soon and will post FPS with that also with this setup.
I ran 3DMark06 once and with nothing overclocked scored 9135.
I don't plan on overclocking but I do plan to undervolt (No reason not to). -
Well yeah cs:s, cs 1.6, and Age of Empires 3, all play smoothly while Team fortress 2 and left4dead...no so much..but none of the games i played on steam seem to be getting normal fps for this laptop...its playable but i still wana know whats the problem..i just hope its not a hardware problem...but it shouldn't be...
O and i've been playing in 1920x1200 the whole time...there should be no problem with that right? Playing in its native resolution shouldn't make that much difference on the fps..hmm -
I honestly don't know what FPS I get in games simply because I don't monitor/check them. If it looks good to my eye than I don't care what FPS I'm getting so I really don't know what your FPS should be
-
Well CS is acceptable even though it gets lower than avg fps for an FX!...but in games like left4dead and team fortress 2 the low fps is too noticeable for me to accept...
Also for Age of empires3 i dont know how to check the fps but the game runs very smooth on max settings but the screen always seems to jump when i try to scroll across it...anyway to fix that? -
You've changed your drivers..
You've made sure its plugged in when your gaming..
You've made sure the power options are on "High Performance"..
You've done a system restore..
How bout this.. Get the Task manager up (Hold Ctrl, Alit, and Delete all at the same time).
Go to the "Performance" tab at the top, and tell me how many GB your using with everything closed (Browser and such).
Man what part of new jersey you from? I'm from NJ and I'm about to go to your house and check out your computer myself! Lol. -
With everything closed ..under memory it says 1.23GB...and i live in south jersey near Atlantic City...it would be an honor to have you touch my laptop haha

Resolution will have an effect on FPS. Try a lower resolution if you haven't already.
-
-
I would also ask, what do you have running off the usb? Also are there any networked drives, printers or other things that the system could be using resources? I would take off of the system all extra's, even the mouse, and turn the wireless off and see if that helps.
Get Nvidia system monitor and also be sure the GPU memory and shader are upclocking and staying that way. I've had issues with some drivers having the GPU and shader clocked properly but then the memory went down to 300 durring 3D. This would almost cut the FPS in half.............. -
Thank you Semi, lowering the resolution might help it a little(acually didn't) but doesn't solve the problem. I only have 1 external harddrive running off the usb..thats about it..but i dont think using ONE usb port can lead to such drastic performance loss..especially on an FX! haha
I dont have a clue what might be wrong now....maybe theres a problem with the power options? Its always set to high performance but it plays like im on power save...-sigh-
O and 60fps is like the highest i ever got on Left4Dead...but its usually in the mid 30s and 40s
My cousin with the p-7811 gets at least 90...
why me.. -
Also make sure you check temp/prop back of laptop up about and inch or so... anything below say... 85c should be fine but most FX users with the backs proped up aren't seeing much higher than 75c with extreme use
-
This is probably nothing but try it anyway:
Go to your Power Options
Go to "Change When To Turn Off Display"
Go to "Change Advanced Power Settings"
Click the "+" sign next to "Processor Power Management"
Click the "+" Next to Maximum Processor state.
Are both the numbers on 100%?
Also, Download:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/
Run it, and keep it up in the background, than, run one of your games that your getting low FPS on, after playing the game for like 2 minutes, Minimize the game (Hit the Windows key on your keyboard) and look at the GPU-Z, if you can, take a screenshot of it with "Print Screen" and post in here for us.
What that is doing is showing us how your GPU is clocking during gaming.
If you don't know how to post screenshots, do this:
Hold Fn and press "ISN/PrntScrn" key above your BackSpace key.
Open up "Paint" from the start menu.
Right click on the paint section and hit Paste.
Center it so "GPU-Z" is in the picture.
Save the picture.
Go to Tinypic.com
Browse
Go to the picture and select it.
Hit upload.
Copy the "HTML For Forums" link it gives you
Post that code in the Reply box on here. -
Yay! Semi i did what you said above and it said 50% for BOTH!~ Hopefully that is the problem! So that means i am only getting 50% processing power when plugged in right? And changing that to 100% will maybe DOUBLE my performance?!
Update: O wait...haha sorry i think that was on powersaver settings....when i went to high performance setting they are both set at 100%... Nooo......
Because i am still getting fps around 60s in CS:S and it feels like my performance should be doubled..
I will take the screenshot to see whats up...
thanks semi! -
woah.. amazing..

Played L4D for about 5minutes...got around 35 fps...
I also downloaded 3dMark Vantage and Fraps if you want me to do a test with them -
Your sure you installed dox's drivers bro?
It should say whatever number of dox's you installed.
This is what it would look like if you had dox's installed:
Mine is on the right.
See how next to "Driver Version" Mine says Forceware 181.22? And yours says 176.75? Thats your drivers version.
You still have the stock ones on yours.
Look at the bottom where it says your card name, yours just says "NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS" Whereas if you look over at mine it has "Dox Optimized" next to that.
So yeah you installed your drivers wrong bro. Try installing the dox's again with the guides.
Also, after your done with the drivers, do the GPU-Z thing again and post a screenshot of that same thing, plus a screen shot of the "Sensors" tab at the top, make sure you do that when your game is running.
EDIT: MAKE SURE you uninstall your drivers before installing the dox's.
By the looks of it you never uninstalled the stock drivers when you installed your dox's or else it wouldn't be showing you having the 176.75's.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
No i did a system restore...because i thought that would fix everything..and i didn't mess with the drivers after i did..so for stock drivers ..is the GPU performance normal? You think it will improve with dox?
-
Oh okay.
Well than, run the game again, and post me a screenshot of the "Sensors" tab on GPU-Z this time instead.
Your clocks are showing they're clocked right.
But I want to see if they're clocking right during the game, the Sensors tab shows the clocks when your running a game. -

Try the DOX and see for yourself.
-
-
Your GPU temp seems high, I think your GPU is downclocking itself after awhile.
Download HWMonitor
Google it it'll come right up.
Run that before you begin the game and play for a little while.
HWMonitor will monitor your temps while you play.
Think this might be a heat problem.
EDIT: Play for like 20minutes. when your done, post me a screenshot of the HWMonitor window.
EDIT 2: Just incase you can't find HWMonitor, here it is:
http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
Download the 64bit version on the upper left. -
Yeah when im in game the temp goes up to the 80s but it should be normal right? I dont think i ever went above 85..and comes back down to the 60s in very quickly once i alt-tab out of it....
Ill play for a few more minutes and post the pic -
Yeah if your sticking around at the 80s that should be alright.
Just worried me when your GPU-Z reported 84C and you hadn't been playin for awhile when you posted the GPU-Z right? -
No i played for like 5 minutes and saved the pic like 3 secs right after i alt-tabbed out of game..hmm
-
Post me your HWMonitor report if you've been playing a game.
Preferably if you've been running a game for 15-20minutes.
EDIT:
Also, your power mode looks like this, correct?
The only thing that should look different is the % of battery remaining, for obvious reasons that'll be different,
But the blue dot is next to High Performance, right?
To get that view, just left click once on the battery Icon in your icon tray.
And this:
Make sure yours isn't on "Quality".
To get there, right click on your desktop and select Nvidia Control Panel and click "Adjust Image Settings and Preview" on the left.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
Yep its at high performance and heres what i got for HWMonitor...after playing for about 30 minutes
http://i44.tinypic.com/20h1oaq.jpg
Edit:
Oh! It's set to Quality! Maybe that's why?
I'll Let you know thanks
Update: Same FPS...it wont go over 100...usually stays around 35-60
I'll restart my computer and check again...if nothing works ill just change drivers -
To your edit: Yeah check your FPS again with it on performance and let me know.
If theres a good boost of FPS, you should now install dox's drivers for a little bit more boost, hopefully you'll be in the right range of FPS by than. Post back to let me know how its going. -
Hey do you have Left4Dead? Is it normal to be getting 35-60fps with maxed settings?
-
Yeah. I'll run it right now.
Tell me which level and which chapter of the level to run so we can be as accurate as possible.
Also tell me what tool your using to view your FPS.
And when you say maxed settings, you mean 16xAA (Antianalysing) and everything else? -
Yeah i was playing at medium and decided to see if it can get any lower...but get the same undesirable fps on max..
Maybe we can play online together to see our fps difference -
See if you get the right FPS on single player. -
Well i seem to be getting pretty good speed/pings with comcast...so that shouldn't be the problem but i definitely get higher fps playing myself...i get over 200fps in an empty CS:S server
Edit: Actually i am getting same fps in campaign...with maxed settings my fps never goes over 90, it usually stays between 35-50, and goes down to 28-30 when surrounded by zombies.. -
I'll run the same campaign and chapter with the same settings and see what my FPS is.
Also you never told me what your using to view your FPS, are you using Fraps? Thats what I'm going to use so open fraps, and leave it running while you play left 4 dead, it'll show your FPS in the top left corner. Tell me what you see it hovering around. -
I was playing Chapter 1. The Apartments
And i just went into console and typed in 'net_graph 1'...and it shows my FPS..
Incase you didn't know its in options > keyboard > and enable 'Allow Developer Console'
Let me know thanks!
You should give me your steam name so we can play it together ;D -
Off topic, but I see more New Jerseyites! I'm in Monmouth County, NJ........
-
I'm in Atlantic County...Egg Harbor Twp. near Atlantic City
Do you attend Monmouth University by any chance? -
Look:
Thats with everything maxed out (My FPS is at the upper left, using FRAPS)
But now, if you lower the AA and such, you'll get better FPS at minimal visual loss.
Like this:
With those settings, you get an alright boost of FPS, heres the screenshot with those settings:
No visual differences and the FPS is better.
Also note you'll get more FPS in smaller rooms, less FPS in larger ones (Lowest outside).
I don't play L4D really anymore, I play Call of duty 4Do you have that?
NOTE: Those screenshots are of The Apartments right after you go down the stairs off of the roof you start off on.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
Wow..i seem to be getting better fps than you haha...but your using fraps...doesn't that lower it? Also in games like CS:S my fps should definitely be higher than what i am getting(under 100fps)...i still feel the FX can do such better than this!
I will try to test some other games with fraps to see what i get before changing drivers..maybe i am just expecting too much...i don't know..
Anyhow, thanks Semi! i just can't thank you enough for you help!
O and i have Call of Duty: WaW...but i might be getting COD4 sooni'll let you know..
Edit: hmm...Empire Total War seems like the only game that i feel my fx is noticeable struggling with.. -
Really thats the most FPS people get.
To quote from a Asus G50VT review (That model has basically the same specs as us) it says
Yeah let me know when you get CoD4, we can kick some butt, I'll introduce you to the clan server I play on and stuff. Real fun. -
