M-6332 won't boot. LEDs and fan on for a bit then shuts off.

I replaced the mainboard in this Gateway M-6332 because the left touchpad switch no longer worked. (Also had to construct a new flexible hinge for the button.)

I had it running for several hours when it completely froze. I had to pull the battery. After that it will light up the power LED and the LEDs at the front, the fan runs for a couple of seconds then it shuts off.

I figured the CPU must have fried because I pushed the thermal film on the heat sink back into place instead of cleaning it off and putting new compound on. (My can of white thermal paste has gone missing.) The thermal pad for the chip under the fan came loose from that chip without any damage.

Cheap at $5 for an exact replacement brand new CPU. Just installed it and no change in how it doesn't work.
