I'd give Kam the benefit of the doubt, as he mentioned 15in with ATI, he just typo'd a bit.

Dook - however, heh, well, never mind. Mebbe put down the baby oil for a while? :)

crap huh... somehow it fits the whole motif :p

Yeah the 6851 is a really good buy, after someone mentioned it on here i looked into it. It seems to me to be the same machine minus the FX styling..but for less money (wondered how much the FX scheme cost us)

    Actually, looks like it's this:

    Gateway M-6864FX

Not much diff - same mainboard as M-152XL/153XL, M-6850FX/M-6851.
    Quick specs: C2D T5750/4GB/200GB-7200rpm/15.4-1280x800

Looks like just the CPU changed.

Don't forget, though, that originally, the M-6851 was the same $899 as the '50FX. Diff is it had 1GB more RAM, and something else. Costco just happened to drop it to $799.97, and when you see a price NOT ending in .99, it usually means SOMETHING is up. I think you get MORE than the $100 value buying it from Costco, though - 2Y warranty, 24x7 Tech Support from Costco, 90-day no questions asked refund INCLUDING shipping!

    Machines are close enough, though.

    Ok - hunted it down:
    FX has 3Gb RAM, '51 has 4GB
    FX has 320GB drive, '51 has 250GB
FX has DVD-RW with LabelFlash, '51 has standard DL DVD-RW no labelflash
FX has Vista Home Premium SP1 x32, '51 has Vista Home Premium SP1 x64

And, of course, FX has penny-colored accents ;)

Question: If you do NOT want to run x64, will Gateway send you x32 media to install on the machine?

if its a x64 medium, it might even come with x32 right onto the cd. I know on retail versions the cd has both 64 and 32 bit.

but for my 152XL, the vista cd only has 32 bit.

if gateway wont send u a 32 bit one, microsoft will, you just have to pay shipping and handling.

    Cool - thanks for that.
I suppose I'll try with Gateway first, and if they decline, I'll go to MS.
