Ok sorry for all those sporadic messages. I am literally going insane. I've been trying to install these drivers for such a long time and still it doesn't work.

I just got the the Gateway Laptop M-6862 and downgraded to windows Xp 64bit. That installation was a feat itself already. I didn't have any drivers whatsoever for the new OS so I had to find the individual drivers for the specific components.

It took me 6hrs playing with this to even realize that when I finally gave up on the softmod and just wanted to install the regular HD2600 drivers, it didn't even work!

The message says the driver does not work with the hardware installed????
I looked at the display adapters and it says nothing. No name, ID, nada, zilch.

    what's going on?

Use mobility moder with drivers from ATI's website. It will allow you to install ati's normal drivers onto your laptop.

    have you tried this?

are you working on an OS that is not Vista?
did your VGA not show up either?
    is the adapter "unknown"

    Also, if you installed XP
which drivers did you install for xp?
