The one with more dedicated vram is non-configurable. the other one is configurable... they're just making you pay more for the ability to customize. i'd go with the QS.

I was wondering what the difference is between the M460XL and the M460XL-QS. The QS seems to have more dedicated video memory and a 1 module 512 RAM. What confueses me is that they are the same price. I cannot wait to hear your thoughts. I am right now trying to decide between the M460XL-QS and the 7422GX.

Yeah, it looks like a pretty nice deal actually with 1 gig of ram and the 128MB X600. I'd like to see what beerforbrains has to say about it when he receives it. There isn't much review material on this particular notebook yet.

The notebook is not here. It won't be here until next Monday. That is assuming I don't cancel my order, and/or Gateway doesn't screw it up again.

This morning I woke up to a fresh coat of snow; I got my coffee and fixed some eggs. As anticipated, I watched as the delivery truck labored down my road, and then throwing a bit of a monkey wrench into my day, I watched as it continued on past my house.

No problem I thought, it must be the snow. I decided to call up Gateway and obtain a tracking number so that I could find out the status of my machine. This is where things began to become aggravating.

I spent the next 1 hour 53 minutes 27 seconds in various states of limbo between being on hold, giving my details, finding out that my machine did not exist, confirming my details, confirming my machine did not exist, and then, finally ordering the same exact computer all over again. All anyone could tell me was that, yes a line of credit to pay for the computer had been established, but the order (which at one point needed to exist to generate a purchase confirmation number and a credit line to pay for the order – which I had received multiple pieces of mail confirming) had never been placed. Arrrgh!!!

No doubt you've been in this position, if not, you're imaginative, so I’m sure you can guess at my state of mind.

The sales rep that I dealt with, Canton – ext. 25536, was really the one bright spot in my dealings with Gateway. When I finally went back to the source and spoke with Canton again today he remembered taking my order and did the best he could to remedy the situation. He apologized for the problems and took the shipping off the bill. I really wanted to yell at someone, but Canton wasn’t the right person to be upset with. Canton is the only reason that I haven’t gone to another company ***yet*** to buy a laptop.

Being in the mood to yell at someone… I placed another call to customer service (what’s another 2 hours [ :D]) I wanted to speak with someone in management and was promised that they would give me a call later in the day. Of course, that phone call never came. At the end of the business day I called customer service back, and settled for one of their agents. I gave the agent my background info as well as my new order number and asked if there was any special consideration that might be given to my case given the hassle and delays that I had experienced. He told me that my order had been placed, and since it was being processed there was no need to do anything for me. Nice attitude Gateway.

I really feel torn at this point, this is the computer I want – but there just doesn’t seem to be a good reason to give my money to Gateway. I’ll put up another response when I make my final decision and what I think about the computer if I decide to receive it.

    Have a great night everyone!
    John
