I've been reading this board for a while and now I need your advice on upgrading my m675x hard drive. I have a 60gb 5,400rpm and I would like to upgrade for a 100gb 5,400rpm. Where do you suggest I buy the new hard drive for best compatibility and price!!???

    thanks for your help!

I have a Hitachi Travel Star 5K100 (100GB,5400RPM,8MB), and it's VERY fast....5400RPM is good, but if you are changing: why not to 7200RPM ?
Where to get it? just go to shopper.com or pricewatch and see what's online...good deals are easy to find online.

    thanks for the advice!!

the reason why I'm not going with a 7,200rpm model is I'm already having heat issues with my laptop and I think a 7,200 won't help! 5,400rpm seems to be fast enough for me, I'm not a gamer anymore. I just need more HD space!

Exactly, 7200RPM is more battery consuming and produces a lot of heat....and this hitachi y way better than I expected. There is a poll somewhere on this forums with HDD speeds and features, look for that and you will get a clear picture on what's out there.
    Good luck!
